The episode opens with distant a view of Katolis Castle, then lowers towards the forest to show Runaan and Callisto crouching on the branch of a tree, gazing upon the castle.
Callisto looks back down to the assassin camp, where the remaining elves tend to their weapons to prepare them for their mission. Rayla examines her blade with an unsure expression, then turns towards Andromeda, who is currently pouring poison over her own knife. Because Andromeda glares back at Rayla, she decides to address Skor instead, who is sharpening his sword on top of a rock.
Ezran, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I said. I'm sure everything's going to be fine. Come on, later you can call me a jerkface, and I'll do the crazy jerkface dance for you. [Gestures in a silly fashion while grinning widely] It is a dance of stupitude and sorry-ness. [Slumps over his shoulders when his cheer up attempt does not work] Okay, well, I'm going to go grab some books for our trip. We don't have much time, so I'll be back to help you pack in a few.
Callum checks the door one more time as he turns away from it, then fixes his bag on his shoulder and leaves the room.
Scene Change
Back inside the forest, Runaan walks in front of Rayla.
I know you've never taken before. I brought you because you're talented. Maybe the fastest and strongest of any of us. But it takes more than that. There's an instinct. A moment of truth. And in that moment, you hesitate. [Stops and turns around to Rayla with an angry look]
Runaan walks away and Rayla leaves her head hanging, then looks up at the castle of Katolis and the rocks surrounding it. She thinks for a while, then makes a decision.
Rayla gets up and runs off, jumping off a couple of stones as she heads towards the castle
Scene Change
Callum enters the castles library where he passes two statues before approaching a book shelf. He pulls out a book called "Lost Secrets of Xadia", which he places onto the floor and begins reading it with a smile. Suddenly the pages begin turning on their own, leaving Callum shocked and he stumbles backward.
[Giggling as she comes out from behind a shelf, carrying a Primal Stone. She draws a rune into the air and whispers]Aspiro.
The drawn rune summons a gust of wind that slams the book against another bookshelf. Claudia continues to giggle while she approaches Callum, who then stands back up on his feet.
Nah, it's just a simple wind breath rune. [Lifts her Primal Stone and draws a smaller scaled rune again] Aspiro. [Blows a small gust of wind into Callum's face] Can you smell the peanut butter?
Claudia gasps, then taps her nose and wags her finger at Callum, then runs off without a word. She turns left, then corrects herself and dashes to the right instead. Callum taps his nose the same way she did, then slumps over his shoulders.
Viren leaves the room and closes the door behind him, when suddenly Claudia rushes towards him, exclaiming excitedly while tapping her nose and pointing back and forth between herself and her father.
Ezran, we need to get going. It's almost sundown. [Raises an eyebrow in worry] Ez? [Places his bag down and opens the pet door to check Ezran's room, finding it to be empty] Oh, no.
Oh, perfect. But he could have seen both of us if he wanted to. [Picks up his bag and leaves]
Soldier
[Rolls his eyes]
Scene Change
Rayla jumps through the tree tops and stops when she runs into two guards conversing.
Male guard
Yesterday, I had two eggs for breakfast and I was starving. Today, I had four eggs and I'm stuffed. [Pats belly] So, tomorrow--
Female guard
Three eggs, I get it. We don't need to talk.
Male guard
[Disappointed] I was going to say two eggs and one sausage.
Rayla narrows her eyes and continues her way through the trees, then hides behind a tree when two more patrolling guards pass. When she reaches the river, she shuts her eyes for a moment, then inhales sharply to gather the courage to try her luck on climbing the wall. She pulls out her knives and jumps over rocks in the water, then slams her blades into the rock surface of the cliff. Using this method, she ascends further.
Callum, I know I'm not your birth father, but I want you to know that... [Inhales deeply] This isn't easy. So, the most important things, I've written down. [Pulls out a sealed letter and hands it to Callum]
There are centuries of history. Generations of wrongs and crimes. On both sides. I am responsible for some of those wrongs. I have done terrible things. I thought they were necessary. Now, I don't know. But I do know I will pay the price for the choices I made.
[Sighs and chuckles] The great illusion of childhood is that adults have all the power and freedom. But the truth is the opposite. A child is freer than a king.
Take care of your brother. [Turns his back to him]
Callum prepares to walk away and grabs his bag, when Harrow approaches him once more. When Callum turns around, the two embrace each other and hold each other for a while as tears fill the corners of their eyes; one last goodbye.
Scene Change
Rayla reaches the top of the cliff and slumps over the castle wall, panting in exhaustion. She manages to pull herself onto the wall floor with a grunt and allows herself to gasp for air on the ground, before pushing herself back up. She gazes over the forest with a determined look on her face.
Ez, is that you? [Turns to enter the hallway where he notices the movement and calls out] Hello?
Callum continues through the hallway as Rayla emerges from behind a knight's armor, then silently follows him, readying her blades. As she nears him, Callum stops and smiles, expecting Ezran.
Oh. Uh, did you check back there? [Points to the side]
When Rayla glances over to where he had pointed, Callum takes the opportunity to grab a nearby drape and pulls it on top of Rayla. He then runs off, screaming and panting heavily, stumbling on his way. Rayla cuts the drapes open with a twirl of her blades, then rushes after Callum. He tries to block her path by pushing over a knight's armor, but Rayla jumps against the wall, leaping over it. As she threatens to catch up to him, Callum makes his way outside, where he runs past two soldiers.
She's right behind me. [Points back towards Rayla]
The soldiers ready their swords, but after a twirl of her blades, Rayla manages to dodge any advances by leaping over them, then forces them to the ground by sweeping their legs with the bent part of her weapons. She smiles proudly.
[Pushes open a door and calls out in panic] Lord Viren! Claudia! Anyone! [Grunts as he is pushed over by Rayla, then stumbles into a nearby table and loses Harrow's letter as his bag drops to the ground. Holds his head as turns to look at Rayla]
Humans cut down the King of the Dragons, and destroyed his only egg, the Dragon Prince. [Points her blade at Callum's throat] Justice will not be denied.
[Looks down sadly] I see. [Looks back up with a serious expression] Well, then, you've found me. I am Prince Ezran.
Scene Change
King Harrow is being equipped with armor for the upcoming fight by his guards, when the door opens and Viren walks in, carrying a mysterious yellow basket.
On that, we agree. [Walks up to Harrow] Moonshadow Elves are dangerous, elite fighters. Under a full moon, they become nearly invisible, and they can penetrate any defense. Nothing in the five kingdoms can stop them.
But it doesn't have to be you. In the black sands of the Midnight Desert dwells a mysterious snake called a Soulfang Serpent. [Holds the basket forward, in which hissing can be heard] The Soulfang has an unusual diet. Its bite drains and consumes the spirit of its prey. On our last journey into Xadia, I acquired a rather unique specimen. [Opens the basket and lifts the snake with his staff, revealing it to have two heads] Two heads, two bites, two souls held at once. And through magic, I can switch your spirit with another. The Moonshadow Elves will find the king's body, but your spirit will survive.
Callum picks up his bag and the two disappear into the passage behind the painting. While closing the painting, Ezran's hand leaves behind a jelly stain. Rayla meanwhile tries to adjust her eyes back to the light.
Scene Change
The courtyard shows a soldier patrolling, before the focus is brought back onto the castle tower.
Should I be grateful that you destroyed that dragon's egg? Thank you for starting this unwinnable war? Thank you for angering the dragons and the elves so much that tonight they are here for my life?
What is done cannot be undone. I am offering you a path forward. Your discomfort is understandable. You don't feel right trading your life for another's. But know this, every one of these men and women would gladly trade their life to save yours. [Gestures to the nearby guards, who exchange concerned looks]
[Approaches the wall, then turns to Callum with a smile] Time for a puzzle. [Turns back and begins pressing against the stone wall] Rock, rock, stone, rock, stone, stone. Rock, stone, rock, stone, stone...
[Clenches fist in frustration and turns around] Ugh! You made me do stone instead of rock. [Returns to pressing the stones] Rock, rock, stone, rock, stone, stone, rock, stone, rock.
[Clenches teeth in panic and gets fidgety as he looks back at the corridor] Uh...
Ezran smiles proudly and turns to look at the floor behind them, while a secret door opens, leading into a secret room via a spiral staircase. The brothers stumble back and wait until the passage has fully formed.
The trio makes their way down the stairs and end up in Viren's secret castle chambers, where Ezran pulls a lever to close the passage behind them. They watch the stairs pull away while they bring some distance between themselves and the entrance.
I just pressed all the stones with the jelly handprints.
Ezran facepalms, leaving a jelly handprint on his forehead. Rayla steps closer, letting her eyes wander through the room, discovering the bodies of animals inside strange jars.
What is this place? Runaan is right. There's nothing in humans worth sparing. [Points her blade at the boys, who back away in fear] Time's up. Humans destroyed the egg of the Dragon Prince. There must be justice.
