History[]
Villads was born inside Katolis on September 13th. At some point during his adult life, he acquired a pet parrot named Berto, married a woman named Ruth, became a pirate, and lost his left eye in a seagull attack. Later on, another unknown attacker took his remaining eye. He eventually settled as a captain-for-hire and searches the seas for cargo and passengers alongside Berto. He named his ship The Ruthless after his beloved wife, since she did not like sailing and would never set foot on the deck.[1]
First Saga[]
In their journey to Xadia, Team Zym hired Villads and Berto to help them cross a vast lake. Villads agreed, unaware that Rayla is a Moonshadow Elf due to his blindness. Villads warned Team Zym that it would be a turbulent voyage due to the approaching storm. The group sailed across the lake and into the storm before they docked The Ruthless on an island until the weather calmed.[1] After the storm had passed, the group continued their voyage and Villads predicted that they should reach the other side of the lake within one full day.[2] Villads eventually formed a bond with Rayla and gave her advice about taking control of her life and following her dreams. Team Zym eventually saw the shoreline in the distance just as they noticed Pyrrah's shadow flying overhead.[3]
Second Saga[]
Two years after the battle at the Storm Spire, Villads managed to expand his trade across Xadia. He eventually met the winged Skywing Elf Nyx at Scumport before she became his first mate of The Ruthless,[4] although the two tend to bicker on who was the real captain of the ship.[5] Villads happily reunited with Team Zym when they visited Scumport and agreed to help them sail to the Sea of the Castout to prevent the liberation of Aaravos after he helped them in rescuing three baby Glow Toads from Finnegrin.[4] After The Ruthless got shipwrecked during their escape from Sea Legs, Villads got captured alongside the rest of Team Zym.[5] Villads was freed from his bonds when Soren convinced Elmer to turn against Finnegrin, and became the new captain of Sea Legs just as the ship entered the Sea of the Castout.[6]
Villads was among the crowd that celebrated the construction of the city of Evrkynd.[7]
Book Two - Sky[]
Voyage of the Ruthless[]
While sneaking through a human town, Team Zym is debating on how to cross the vast lake before them. Rayla suggests that she puts on her human disguise again to avoid suspicion while Callum tries to find the best captain-for-hire. They eventually chooses Villads since his blindness will work to Team Zym's advantage. Villads informs the group that they will have to delay their travels for a few days due to a coming storm, but Rayla insists that they are on a tight schedule and Villads relents that they should leave immediately if they wish to beat the storm, unless if the storm catches and kills them mid-bay.
Villads and Team Zym sail through the lake on The Ruthless as he tells them on how a flock of mutinous seagulls took his eyes. Callum takes an interest on how Villads can sail despite being blind, and the latter informs him that the sail is like a wing flying through the wind and pulling the boat against the water currents. Villads also adds on how he understands where the wind is and how it changes after being exposed to it long enough, almost as if he has built a connection with the wind. The Ruthless eventually enters a powerful storm and Villads decides to dock the ship by a nearby island and wait until the weather subsides.
Breaking the Seal[]
Villads proclaims to smell land, but continues that it is faint and distant. He predicts the distance to be covered in one full day of sailing.
Heart of a Titan[]
While travelling on the sea, Villads asks Rayla about her name and occupation, where he is told that she is supposed to be an assassin. When he learns that it is not actually her dream to follow this path, he offers her a word of wisdom and compares life to a river, stating that it is impossible to predict where the path of life would lead. After explaining that she would only find her way if she learned to take control of herself, rather than trying to take control over life itself, he falls asleep on the stairs before hearing Rayla's response.
Later on, Villads is steering the ship once again and takes in Rayla's praise for his wisdom. Wanting to share another lesson, he shows off his waterproof socks, claiming them to be a metaphor. When he smells the scent of land in the distance, he gathers with Team Zym to watch the ship arrive at the shore as the Fire Dragon Pyrrah soars through the clouds.
The Book of Destiny[]
Villads and Berto appear to Callum inside a dark magic-induced fever dream, where he offers him his ship to travel in. When they are caught inside a storm, Villads asks Callum to take over the sails and steering wheel, which eventually allows Callum to find the exit. Villads then tells Callum that his conscience is a messy place before flying out from the dream on a gigantic Berto.
Book Five - Ocean[]
Bait & Switch[]
Villads and Berto reunite with Team Zym at Scumport as he explains that he expanded his trade to Xadia ever since Azymondias's return to the Storm Spire. Berto then jokes about some of Villads's new businesses being not exactly legal. Villads happily agreed to help Team Zym in rescuing three baby Glow Toads from Finnegrin and to help them sail to the Sea of the Castout. After Soren brought Finnegrin and Elmer to the marketplace, Villads and Callum create a commotion by pretending fighting over a barrel of Smoke Bees, with Villads claiming to have sailed all the way from Evenere for said bees and will not leave without them before he calls Callum a "flopsy anchovy". They then toss the barrel towards Finnegrin, which causes it to explode and release the Smoke Bees. Rayla, Stella, and Zym succeed in stealing the keys to Finnegrin's office during the chaos, allowing Ezran to rescue the baby Glow Toads before all of them board The Ruthless and set sail to the Sea of the Castout. Villads also introduces Team Zym to his new first mate: the winged Skywing Elf Nyx.
Sea Legs[]
Villads and Nyx are having an argument about who is the true captain of The Ruthless as they voyage to the Sea of the Castout. Nyx claims that she won The Ruthless fair and square in a game of Danger Dice and is the official "Commodore" of the ship. Rayla and Callum then reveal that they are traveling to the Sea of the Castout to stop Aaravos from escaping his prison. When Callum casts "Aspiro" on the sails, he causes The Ruthless to move faster and the baby Glow Toad Hat to fall overboard. The situation escalates when a leviathan catches Hat's scent, though Villads and Team Zym manage to rescue Hat from being eaten. However, their celebration is cut short when Nyx informs everyone that Finnegrin is following them on Sea Legs. Villads informs Team Zym that Finnegrin would flip a coin to determine fates of his captured enemies: If heads, he would drown them in the icy depths. If tails, then they wish it had been heads. Villads then steers The Ruthless into a nearby fog bank with the aid of Callum's "Ventus Validus", hoping that they will be able to evade Sea Legs.
The Ruthless manages to hide in the fog for a little while before Nyx alerts everyone that Sea Legs is right on their tail. Callum resorts into casting "Lapis Caeli" to steal the wind from Sea Legs. However, Sea Legs is able to continue the pursuit and Villads ignores Nyx's advice by steering The Ruthless into sailing through a bunch of jagged rocks called Garlath's Teeth. However, The Ruthless soon finds itself shipwrecked and destroyed by Sea Legs. Nyx offers Villads her condolences as Finnegrin orders his crew to bring Callum into his cabin while the rest of Team Zym is imprisoned in the brig.
Finnegrin's Wake[]
When Finnegrin asks Callum on which of his friends' hands will be cut off for stealing the baby Glow Toads, Villads offers to have one of his hands taken since hooks are in fashion in the recent years. Villads can only sit and hear the ongoing conflict between Team Zym and Finnegrin, which culminates in the Tidebound Elf using Bait to lure a leviathan that he intends to feed Rayla to. However, Callum and Soren manage to defeat Finnegrin after convincing Elmer to turn on and feed his former boss to the leviathan, which allows them to free Villads and the rest of Team Zym. Villads assumes command over Sea Legs before he unveils Berto from underneath his hat. As Nyx returns to the ship, Villads and Rayla are quick call the Skywing Elf out as a mutineer who bargained for her freedom with Finnegrin. However, Nyx confesses that she always had Team Zym's best interests at heart all along and fooled Finnegrin into taking Sea Legs to the Sea of the Castout after she made a claim about hunting for a treasure there.
Book Seven - Dark[]
Nova[]
Villads is among the crowd that witnesses the announcement of Evrkynd, a city where people of all races can live in harmony. When he and Nyx ask on which race will be in charge of the city, Amaya and Gren reveal everyone is. The response causes Villads and Nyx to stare at each other with annoyance.References[]
