Unicorns were a species of compassionate and gentle magical beings that were once native to Xadia and were connected to the Star Primal.[1] Unicorns were considered rare before they were said to have gone extinct at the hands of humanity, who hunted them to extinction in order to empower their dark magic spells.[2][3]
Appearance[]
Unicorns were horse-like creatures that sported a long, slim, and twisted horn on their forehead.

Information[]
Unicorns were known as the most selfless beings of Xadia. They were said to have given humans Primal Stones,[2] but this was disputed by Aaravos, who claimed that this was in fact the work of his daughter Leola, who was executed by the Startouch Elves for giving humans primal magic by teaching them Ancient Draconic and the runes needed to cast spells.[11]
The best kept secret of the unicorns is the Garden of Innocence, a place where they come to die. A special map that can lead to the Garden of Innocence, but only someone with a "true heart" can read it; someone who sees the world with a pure, simple, and innocent perspective. Any child would fit this description, but as people get older, they are forced to make tough choices, sacrifices and compromises, and childhood wonder gives way to something darker and more complex. It is very rare to find an adult with a true heart. To anyone without a true heart, the map just looks like a blank piece of parchment.[12]
Unicorn bones are what Primal Stones are made from (Moon Primal Stones at least, it is unknown if all Primal Stones are). To create a Moon Primal Stone, the bones must be ground into a fine powder, then melted into goo. The goo must then be shaped into a sphere, no other shape will work. To complete the Moon Primal Stone, the bone ball must travel all around the world, like a mini moon. This is a rather troublesome task; countless mages have spent years traveling across deserts, mountains, and seas, and many of them ended up dying partway through their journey.[4]
The unicorn's horn is one of three ingredients used in an unspeakable Dark Magic spell. A spell of vengeance that can kill even the mightiest of Archdragons. The other ingredients are the dying breath of someone killed by the target, and a drop of blood from someone who loved person whom the breath came from, filled with hatred for the target. This spell can be used to enchant a weapon that will cause the target to turn to stone once they've been struck by it.[6]
A rare subspecies of the unicorn was the Pearl Unicorn.[13]

Unicorns drew their power from the Stars.
Trivia[]
- Viren claimed that, after his own long unsuccessful search, Claudia had managed to capture a unicorn and brought him its very rare horn. Said horn was used in Viren's spell to enchant Sarai's spear with dark magic so that Harrow could slay Avizandum.[14] A further comment by writer Devon Giehl emphasized that, although Claudia had interacted with a unicorn and acquired its horn, the direct circumstances are purposefully kept a mystery. She also implied that the scene portrayed in early concept art may no longer apply to the final canon if given the chance to revisit it, describing it as "a version that is maybe true", due to the changes made to the story after the sketches were drawn during early development.[15]
- Unicorns were one of the first additions planned for the first novel. Originally, they were supposed to rival the dragons, as they supported the humans while the dragons allied with the elves.[16]
- Kpp'Ar developed an obsession with unicorns before he was trapped inside an enchanted coin by his former pupil Viren,[17][18] which was proven by the numerous unicorn imageries and decorations inside his Puzzle House.[19]
- The head of a unicorn appears on Ezran's backpack button.
- It was said that Unicorns were able to create Primal Stones, which contain vast energy from the six Primal Sources. They could also teach Ancient Draconic, magical runes, as well as spells to other individuals. This was later revealed to be proven false by Aaravos.[11]
