Information[]
Sun magic draws from the heat and energy of the sun. This source is at its strongest at high noon, when the sun is at its highest point. It is weaker in the dead of night, but wherever there is light, the Sun Primal can be invoked; even the dim light of a single candle's flame would be enough to call upon it and bring forth its light and warmth.[1] It is associated with energy, teaching, truth, fury, warmth, honesty, intensity, charisma, leadership, optimism, revealing, and guiding light.[2]
Sun magic has a dual nature: it can conjure spells of light, growth, nurturing, and transformation, or it can call upon fire, heat, and destruction. The wisest of Sunfire Elves remember that the Sun, for all its light and glory, can blind. Sun mages can learn to master light and fire through strength of will, and some of the most powerful can use the light to heal and purify, or banish sickness and decay. They project a very positive energy overall and believe it is their mission to bring more light and hope into the world.[3] Mages with strong control over their emotions can call upon Sun magic to illuminate the truth, heal sickness, and even purge dark magic corruption.[1] However, they must maintain diligent control of their emotions and impulses.[3]
Sun Primal Stones appear as miniature suns, containing variations of fire or the sun's flame within their cores. They can be used to start fires, and produce heat and light. They are said to have been created by Sol Regem in the ancient days.
Creatures connected to the Sun Primal, such as Sunfire Elves and Sun Dragons, are often intense and charismatic and make natural leaders.[4] They often possess the ability to make their body parts glow, or are able to generate great heat or flames from their body. The current Archdragon of the Sun Primal is unknown. The position was previously held by Sol Regem, who was first King of the Dragons until Ziard scarred him.[5] After reemerging from exile, he choked to death while eating Pharos's corpse.[6]
Arcanum[]
The arcanum of the Sun comes with a furious, positive energy, though also manifests through strong emotions like anger, fear, or grief. It can consume everything it touches in a wave of fiery destruction, or it can imbue a creature with dazzling light, a constant warmth, or a scalding touch.[1]
Nexus[]
The nexus of the Sun is the Sunforge, a tower located in the heart of the Sunfire Elves' fortified city of Lux Aurea.[7] Its powerful light is fueled by a surrounding field of mirrors in the shape of Sol Regem's horns; they reflect the Sun's primal energy into the central orb at the top of the tower. Legend says the Great Orb was bestowed upon the Sunfire Elves by the Sun itself, though in reality, it actually started out as a Sun Seed that was nurtured by generations of Sunfire Elves until it became the Great Orb that it is today.[8] The magic of the Sunforge has been used to infuse Sunforge weapons and equipment with immense heat that does not cool down for centuries.[9]
Ever since Aaravos corrupted the Sunforge, it has been spawning monstrosities all over Lux Aurea. A single scratch from one of these monstrosities will cause the corruption to spread like a plague, infecting all creatures, including humans, elves, and dragons, fully corrupting them after a few days. These corrupted monstrosities avoid the sunlight and only come out at night. There is no known cure and the infected had to be killed. Efforts to purify the Sunforge have been largely unsuccessful.[10][11][12]
Symbol[]
The symbol of the Sun resembles the sun itself, formed from a circle of three leaping flames. It can be found on magical artifacts or at locations dedicated to the Primal Source.[1]
Gems[]
The magic gems connected to Sun magic are known as Fire Rubies.[13] They are identified by their fiery red color.[14]
Another type of Sun gem is a sunstone.[14]

Trivia[]
- According to Rayla, the Sun reflects off the Moon in the same way that life is reflected by death.[15]
- Underglow Dragons (which are connected to the Ocean) were originally mistaken to be connected to the Sun because of the glowing lure attached to their heads, which resembled the bright features known of the Sun Primal.[1]
- In Book Seven: Dark, the Celestial Elf Astrid removes her blindfold and sees the Sun for the first time in her life. The light seems to overwhelm her with its brightness, but it is unknown what magical effects, if any, it might have on her.
- In the "Amor Stella Vitae" spell, the Sun is represented by a flame as the ingredient that will awaken life.[6]
