Sky magic draws on the vast sky, the energy and movement of the winds, as well as the power of thunderstorms. This source is at its strongest during a storm and at high altitudes. It is is associated with lightness, quickness, agility, cleverness, vision, potential, freedom, perspective,[1] and clarity of vision.[2]

Sky magic is sometimes called "weather magic", though it is more than that. While Sky mages can truly summon and manipulate wind, lightning, ice, or shrouding fog, their power is not limited to the weather. It also includes magic that helps one breathe at high altitudes, and a talented Sky mage can magically enhance their movement, allowing bursts of speed and leaps of great length. Even with limited physical training, a Sky mage can learn to perform feats of incredible agility, making them excellent acrobats, dancers, and sometimes thieves.[3] The most powerful among Sky mages can transform their arms into wings, giving them the ability to fly. A even smaller number amongst them are capable of manipulating the wind in a casual way, not requiring an incantation in Ancient Draconic or even drawing a rune, giving them certain advanced skills and abilities, such as the generation of wind gusts for offensive purposes, as well as telekinesis by controlling the air and wind currents.[1][4][5]

Sky Primal Stones appear as glass-like spheres that contain a thunderstorm or other natural weather phenomena. They can be used to cast a variety of air-based, lightning-based, and ice-based spells, and the storms captured inside can even hatch the egg of a Storm Dragon.[6]

Creatures connected to the Sky Primal, such as Skywing Elves and Sky Dragons, are typically quick and clever and prize the freedom to make their own choices in life.[7] The current Archdragon of the Sky is Azymondias,[8] the current King of the Dragons following the deaths of his parents Avizandum and Zubeia.[9]

Arcanum[]

The arcanum of the Sky is understanding that the sky and its winds are everywhere, that the whole world is surrounded by Sky magic, and that you are inside it, and that it is inside of you, that you take it into you with every breath you take. As such, the arcanum requires someone to understand that they do not require wings to conquer the Sky arcanum, but that they themselves are the wing carried by the Primal Source.[10] It confers not only rapid movement and grace, but quickness of thought, the ability to fly, and skill in escaping containment.[2]

Nexus[]

The nexus of the Sky is the Storm Spire, a mountain which lies beyond the Midnight Desert. It is the highest point in all of Xadia, a needle of stone that is so tall, it pierces the sky. Ancient Archdragons of the Sky carved a palace out of solid stone inside of it, which became the lair of the current dragon monarchs. It is from this perch in the sky where Avizandum and Zubeia kept a fearless watch over the magical lands of Xadia.[7]

Symbol[]

The symbol of the Sky resembles three streaks of wind or wisps of a cloud. It can be found carved into mountaintop shrines or flashing inside an artifact affixed with luminous aquamarine gemstones.[2]

Gems[]

The magic gems connected to Sky magic are known as Sky Sapphires.[11] They are identified by their dark blue storm cloud-like color with light blue lightning streaks.[12]
