Information[]
Moon magic draws on the spirit and energy of the moon. The Moon is cyclical in its strength, relating directly to the lunar phases,[1] and at its strongest on the night of a full moon.[2] It is not as strong during the daytime or in underground caves where the moonlight cannot reach.[3] The Moon is associated with illusion, manipulation, love, death, charm, reflection, privacy, appearances, depth, duality, and secrets.[4]
Moon magic deals in creating illusions, concealment spells, and connections with spirits and the veil between life and death. Some Moon mages are illusionists, using their powers to befuddle and confuse their enemies' senses. Simple illusion spells can fool the eyes and ears, but more powerful illusions can mimic even taste or touch. Moon mages can also conjure flickers of the past or put restless spirits to rest. Moon mages understand that all shadows are born of light, and to reach for light is to cast a shadow.[5]
Moon Primal Stones hold a captured moonbeam on their inside that appears as a silvery light between shadows. They can be used to create illusions, trick someone's mind, reveal the past, and even call across the barrier between life and death.[4]
Creatures connected to the Moon Primal, such as Moonshadow Elves and Moon Dragons, can be private and secretive, and are keenly aware of the power of appearances.[6] They also have an aptitude for stealth, trickery, and concealment.[4] The current Archdragon of the Moon Primal is unknown. The position was previously held by the previous Queen of the Dragons, Luna Tenebris, prior to her death.[7]
Arcanum[]
The arcanum of the Moon is understanding the true nature of the relationship between appearances and reality. By default, most people will believe that reality in itself is the only truth and that appearances are deceiving. However, those who know the Moon arcanum are aware that you can only truly know the appearance itself, and that you can never touch the so-called reality that lies beyond the reach of your own perception.[8]
Nexus[]
The nexus of the Moon is the Moon Nexus, a mountaintop lake whose waters reflect the full moonlight perfectly. It is located at the top of Cursed Caldera in Katolis near the ruins of the Moonhenge shrine, a sacred ritual site where ancient Moonshadow Elves would use the power of the nexus to open a path to a shimmering plane between life and death. The Moonhenge was destroyed by the Moonshadow Elves themselves when the continent was divided, preferring to destroy it over risking it fall into human control.
Symbol[]
The symbol of the Moon consists of a circle pierced by moonbeams which is slightly thicker on one side. It can be found at places consecrated to the Moon, such as the Cursed Caldera, and on talismans empowered by Moon magic.[4]
Gems[]
The magic gems connected to Moon magic are known as Moon Opals.[9] They are identified by their ghostly white color.[10]
Another type of Moon gem is a moonstone. A moonstone can be preprogramed to maintain a specific illusion for as long as it is being worn.[11]

Trivia[]
- According to Rayla, the Moon reflects the Sun in the same way that death reflects life.[12]
- According to Lujanne, there is an old illusionist joke: "If wisdom is what you seek, then I shall do my best to fake it".[13]
- Lujanne's signature piece of advice is a reference to the half moon; just because only half the moon can be seen, that does not mean that the other half is not still there.[13][14]
- This is advice is intentionally bad, in order to make the recipient realize that they knew the answer all along.
- According to Lujanne, death is not an ending, for life and death are actually an endless cycle, and that cycle is embodied by the Moon.[15]
- In the "Amor Stella Vitae" spell, the Moon is represented by a bone as the ingredient that will pull life from death.[16]
