The Mage Wars was the era of conflict following the banishment of humanity into the western part of the continent, on a day that became known as "Judgement of the Half-Moon" inside Xadia.[2]
Event[]
The era dating back 1000 years before the modern era goes by two names depending on the location. In the East, it is known as the "Era of Luna Tenebris", the ruling Queen of the Dragons at that time. In the West, this era became known as "The Mage Wars", following the banishment of humanity to the western side of the continent.[1]
The Banishment[]
Following Elarion's excessive use of dark magic and the poaching of magical creatures for their essences and body parts, the human mage Ziard was ordered to give up the dark arts by the ruling Dragon King, Sol Regem. After refusing to give up this magical gift received from one of the "Great Ones", Ziard met his demise through Sol Regem's flame while defending his city and people from the fiery might of the Archdragon.[3] When humanity's crimes were brought before the judgement of both elves and dragons, their punishment was quickly decided to be annihilation of their species as a whole. However, at the last moment, the daughter of an elven leader proposed a merciful compromise, asking for humans to be allowed to settle in the western side of the continent. The new Dragon Queen, Luna Tenebris, ultimately ruled to spare the humans, but banished them to the West on a day that would become known as "Judgement of the Half-Moon".[2]
Forming the Human Kingdoms[]
Following their banishment, humans began settling in the western side of the continent. Similar to the east, the soon to be Human Kingdoms were full of riches, wonder, and magic. The only ones who could make use of it were powerful mages who rose as warlords, battling for resources and territory, bleeding the lands they claimed dry, driving countless creatures to extinction. Just as quickly as one mage rose to power, they were dethroned by another, until eventually there was nothing left. This went on until the Human Kingdoms began taking shape over the decades and centuries.[4]
Though not all of it was gone; some of the magical resources that remained were kept hidden and only known by a few.[4] The first Pentarchy held in a neutral location known as Allhaven Hill brought a final end to the Mage Wars and established the order between the newly formed kingdoms as they are known in the present.[5]
