Callum, Rayla, Ezran, Soren, Zym, Bait and Stella stand on the carved stone platform at the top of the Storm Spire with the sun rising in the distance. Ibis' body lies under a sheet covered in blue roses.
Ezran Callum, do you know the Draconic words? The ones Zubeia said?
Callum steps forward, picks up Ibis' staff and traces his fingers across the metal plates on the staff. The Sky Primal Stone glowing in the centre. Callum traces a glowing rune in the air.
Callum Sepultura Caelo.
A wind scatters the roses off the blanket. Ibis' body transforms into a flock of small blue birds with similar face markings which fly away. Ezran steps forward and stands next to Callum. Zubeia flies over their heads with a loud roar. Later Callum sits on the edge of the platform and hangs his head. Rayla approaches him.
Rayla It's so strange. Last time I was here, I leapt to my certain death. But then you spread your wings and you saved me.
Callum turns his head away.
Rayla So much has happened since then.
Rayla moves closer to Callum and sees a tear streaming down his face.
Rayla Callum. Are you okay?
Callum Not really.
Rayla Do you want to talk about it?
Soren walks up the steps behind them.
Soren Ding, ding, ding. Meeting time. Whoa. I just got this crazy feeling that this happened before.
Scene Change
The group stands in Zubeia's lair.
Zubeia This is all connected. Someone is working to free Aaravos. But who?
Soren kneels down and picks up a piece of the broken Magic Mirror.
Soren My sister.
Rayla How do you know?
Soren It's like she said, it's all connected. It must have been Aaravos whispering to my dad through this mirror all along. Now he's gone. Claudia is powerful, desperate... and she's picking up where he left off. Plus that's her bracelet.
Stella stands next to two of Claudia's snake bracelets. She jumps away and hops onto Rayla's leg.
Callum Then we have to find Claudia and stop her.
Rayla How? I spent every moment of the last two years of my life hunting for her, and I failed.
Ezran We don't know where she is, but we do know what she's looking for. We have to find it first. Zubeia, you told us that Aaravos's prison was a secret. That each of the Archdragons had a piece of the puzzle. With their help, could we solve it before Claudia does?
Zubeia [Exhales] Perhaps. Rex Igneous, the Archdragon of Earth, he may hold a clue to the prison's location. Rex lives beneath the great mountain of Umber Tor. Come, we fly.
Zym jumps after Zubeia. She turns around.
Zubeia No. You stay here, Zym. It is too dangerous. I will not lose you again.
She circles the Storm Spire before she flies off to the East.
Scene Change
The chrysalis creature watches from a distance, then scampers into the forest leaving a trail of strange goo behind. Claudia, Terry and Viren watch the creature.
Terry The mysterious being hasn't said anything yet, but look at this ooze.
He scoops up a bit of ooze.
Terry It's liquid, it's solid. It's got an elegant sheen, and, uh, post viscosity.
Terry and Claudia keep looking at the ooze while Viren follows the creature.
Viren [shushes] Please, please I... I think it's about to speak. Behold the messenger of Aaravos! Guide us, direct us to our destiny!
Viren drops to his knees.
Viren Please. I am listening.
The creature moves closer and looks at Viren with curiosity. Claudia narrows her eyes and watch his closely. The creature unfurls its iridescent wings, widens at Viren and screams with bright green goo spraying from it's mouth. Viren wipes the goo from his face.
Claudia Maybe it wants us to name it. Sparklepuff!
Viren Even this goo-spitting homunculus does not deserve a name as undignified as Sparklepuff.
Claudia More dignified. Hmm. I got it! Sir Sparklepuff. See! It likes it.
The creature flaps its wings and turns around and starts walking off.
Terry Wait! Ugh, Sir Sparklepuff!
Terry and Claudia follow Sir Sparklepuff into the forest. Viren sighs.
Scene Change
Zubeia flies below a gibbous moon. The group rests in her thick white manes. Soren stands on one of the spikes on Zubeia's head.
Soren Ah, it's nice being one of the good guys this time. Humans. Elves. Dragons. We're a Dragang!
Zubeia [laughs] It's kind of the humans to bring their court jester on the journey.
Soren I'm not a jester. I'm the head Crownguard. It's like the Dragonguard but the... Ezranguard.
Zubeia Well, if your sword is as sharp as your wit, then the young king is in good hands.
Soren Wow, but thank you. Uh, dragons are so nice.
Zubeia soars above the clouds.
Scene Change
At the Sunfire settlement Amaya walks through the camp and intervenes in an argument between a human guard and a Sunfire Elf soldier. She spots Gren closeby with a group of humans and Sunfire Elves. Amaya runs to him and they embrace. She pulls back and signs.
Gren [While signing] I'm fine. There was a disagreement in the camp about an open flame. Things got... well, heated, and one of the human civilians was injured. Her name is Lucia. She's the chief architect. She came from Katolis to help set up the camp, and fix up the ruins.
Lucia sits inside a tent with her hands wrapped in bandages.
Gren [While signing] She's healing. Surely things will calm down now, right?
Scene Change
Zubeia flies above a vast Xadian forest.
Zubeia There it is. The Great Mountain of the East. Umber Tor.
She flies toward the snow capped mountain. Zubeia flies around the mountain and lands at a platform near the gates that lead inside the mountain. The group dismounts from her head and approaches the giant doors. Ezran walks up to the doors and knocks on it.
Ezran I'm not sure if anyone's...
The ground trembles and small rocks fall from above.
Soren Go.
Two stone giants emerge from the walls to the side. Ezran runs back to the group and Zubeia encircles the group with her wings.
Terbium We are the guardians of the Gates of Umber Tor.
Chert Guardians is a bit much, don't you think? We're more like doormen.
Terbium Guardianship of this gate is a sacred duty. I've been saying this for 500 years.
Chert Yes, but do we really guard it? We just open and close.
Zubeia [snarls] Enough bickering. Open the doors. We must see Rex Igneous.
The giants exchange a look.
Terbium Rex Igneous is not accepting visitors.
Chert Maybe try back next century?
Ezran Hey. I know you guys are just trying to do your job but.
Zubeia I am the Dragon Queen! Open the doors or I will reduce you to pebbles.
She spreads her wings and roars loudly. Chert falls backwards.
Terbium Oh, uh... We accept your argument.
Chert Very logical, yes. Makes sense.
The giants step aside. Chert carries a wooden staff, he inserts it into an iron wheel and turns it. Terbium turns an identical wheel at the other side of the gates. The wheels move heavy chains that slowly open the gates. A cloud of stone dust falls down as the gates open. Zubeia shields the group with her wings. As the dust settles they see a pile of rocks that block the entrance.
Ezran Uh… it's blocked.
Chert Hmm. Those weren't there 80 years ago. [laughs nervously]
Scene Change
In the forest, the chrysalis creature scampers over mossy ground, with Viren and Claudia close behind. Terry stops to inspect ooze from the creature.
Terry Hmm, what do you do if I add just a touch of dirt, bit more ooze, swirl it just so. Hm. Not too sticky. Ooh. Satiny. Supple. Has a lovely "stretch" to it as well. [gasps] You're perfect.
The creature stops, turns around and slaps his hands on his head. Viren and Claudia exchange a look. The creature makes some moves with his arms and jumps.
Claudia I think he might be trying to say something with his hands? Uh, like that party game. Word-hands.
Viren [grunts] How can anyone expect to make sense of these inane gestures?
The creature repeats the gestures.
Viren That's complete nonsense.
Claudia No, I-I think there's, uh, maybe snake guy, pointy head? Oh! I got it. Lizard in a hat.
Viren You believe our cosmic guide is desperately trying to tell us: "Lizard in a hat."
Claudia Well, did I get it?
The creature runs off.
Scene Change
At the gates to Umber Tor Soren tries to push a rock.
Chert [chuckles] Good luck with that. Uh, you know, you could just go the other way.
Terbium Whoa. Do not reveal the secret entrance.
Zubeia Secret entrance? Why did you not tell us sooner?
Chert Well, the back door isn't exactly dragon-sized. It's more regular sized, uh, for tiny, squishable creatures, like elves and humans.
Ezran We may be tiny and also squishable but if there's a way to Rex Igneous, we're taking it.
Terbium The entrance lies in the Drakewood, deep within the Uncharted Forest.
Callum Do you have a-a-a map, or a set of directions, or...
Terbium Well, it is the Uncharted Forest.
Callum Right. [chuckles] Got it.
Ezran Don't worry. We'll find the way.
Zubeia You are very brave, young king. But I must warn you, when you find Rex Igneous, choose your words carefully.
Chert Yes. The old dragon's got a bit of a temper.
Terbium Oh, annoy him and the ground shall rumble. Irritate him or... [laughs] stone shall shatter, lava shall boil. Infuriate him and...
Chert You'll probably die.
Rayla We'll be fine. We have a way with grumpy monsters.
Rayla looks at Bait, who is in her hands. He grunts.
Zubeia Good luck, little heroes. Azymondias and I shall await you at the Storm Spire.
Zubeia lifts off and flies away.
Scene Change
In the forest, Viren, Claudia and Terry follow the creature across a fallen log.
Claudia It's still trying to communicate. Look, it's drawing something now. Like that other party game. Picturama!
Viren I am beginning to think Aaravos is toying with us.
The creature draws something in the dirt with his finger.
Claudia There it is again! Lizard in a hat?
Terry Lizard... in... a... hat.
Claudia Yeah, whoa.
Terry and Claudia high-five and laugh.
Viren [stutters] That is clearly not a lizard. That's a... It's a...
Viren studies the shape and his eyes widen.
Viren Dragon.
Scene Change
The group walks through the shadowy Drakewood forest.
Soren Breathe it in, everyone. [sniffs] You smell that? It's the smell of adventure. Callum, you with me, adventure. Come on. Let's get our adventuring spirits up. Anyone know any adventuring songs?
Rayla Huh? [shushes]
Soren Okay, okay! Excuse me for trying to put a little pep in our step.
Rayla No! Get down. Hide.
Everyone hides behind a gnarled tree. An Earthblood Elf flies overhead riding a dragon followed by another elf on a dragon. Soren and Rayla hold their swords at the ready.
Ezran Were those Earthblood elves?
Rayla Yep. Those are the Riders of the Drakewood. At least we know we're in the right place.
Ezran Maybe they can help us find the back door.
Rayla I don't think so. The Riders are known for viciously protecting their turf from trespassers, and then throwing them into a hole called the Pit of Despair.
Ezran Okay. That sounds bad.
Rayla [sighs] Nothing else for it. You all stay here and out of sight. I'll go search for the entrance.
Soren You can't just go off alone.
Stella crosses her arms and shakes her head.
Rayla Okay. Fine. Callum and I will go look for the entrance.
Callum No. I'll stay with Ezran. Soren, you go with Rayla. You want an adventure, right?
Rayla Oh. Yeah. I suppose that works, too.
Ezran Good luck, Rayla. You'll find it in no time.
Soren Let the adventure begin.
Soren heads into the forest. Rayla casts a wistful look at Callum. Ezran holds Bait and hangs his head while Callum leans against the trunk.
Scene Change
Dark clouds hang over the Sunfire settlement.
Lucia Am I under arrest? For putting out a candle?
Gren [Interpreting for Amaya] No. These guards are a precaution.
Lucia [scoffs] Precaution? Against what?
Gren [Interpreting for Amaya] People are upset about what happened. About what you did.
Lucia Oh, they're mad at me? I'm the one who was injured. I worked my hands raw for these elves, and now look at what they've done to me. I want to go back to my tent. I don't need your guards.
Lucia stands but Amaya puts her hand on her shoulder and sits her back down.
Gren [Interpreting for Amaya] You should stay here. You might not be safe.
Lucia's brow furrows, she holds her hands close to her chest.
Lucia What's going to happen to me, then?
Gren [Interpreting for Amaya] Queen Janai will decide.
Scene Change
Rayla uses one of her blades to cut a path through the Drakewood forest.
Soren So, things are tense.
Rayla Yeah. Great evil about to be unleashed, potential end of the world and all that.
Soren I meant with you and Callum.
Rayla Nope. We are not talking about this.
Rayla points her blade at Soren.
Soren Look, when you left, it hurt him bad. Real bad. He was miserable. And now you're back. That's kind of good, and it's kind of bad. But it's mostly just weird. And one thing I always say: sometimes you need time to work through the weird. And then it'll work out. Or not. The heart do what it do, or don't what it don't.
Rayla Soren, what the... [gasps]
They run through thick brush toward a ravine, then hide behind some trees. In the ravine an adult Earthblood elf swings a bola at a dragon as a young elf hides behind a rock. The dragon backs away. Golden light from the bola swings above the elf’s head. He glances at the child.
Adult Earthblood Elf Watch carefully. This is how it's done. [laughs]
The elf snaps the bola and light flashes. The dragon wears up.
Adult Earthblood Elf You're too wild. Ya big dumb beast. We'll break you. [grunts]
Soren steps forward and grips his sword.
Soren We have to do something.
Rayla pulls him back into the forest.
Rayla No. We can't risk being seen. I hate it too, but we have to keep moving. Let's go!
Soren But it's an innocent dragon, and he's hurting it. That was something you cared about. Didn't they call you a Dragonguard?
Rayla We can't save everyone, Soren. There's too much at stake. I'm leaving, and you better be right behind me.
Rayla walks into the forest. Soren looks back at the ravine.
Scene Change
Callum and Ezran are setting up the camp. Callum drops firewood near Bait while Ezran unfurls a bedroll.
Ezran Um, I think we've got enough firewood, Callum.
Callum Huh? Oh. I'm sorry.
Callum sits on a log and hangs his head.
Ezran You look like you might have some big feelings.
Callum This isn't a big feelings time, Ez. We've gotta stay alert. We-we-we don't know what's out there.
Crickets are chirping in the background.
Ezran Just crickets. But don't worry. They told me they're not the ambushing type.
Callum hunches over and sighs.
Ezran You okay?
Callum Yeah. I can't get it out of my head. Whenever I close my eyes I'm back in that moment. It was... awful.
Ezran Wow. I know you're hurting, but... I'm sure Rayla doesn't mean to make you feel like that.
Callum What? Rayla? I'm talking about Aaravos. You know, when he took over my whole body and used me like a puppet.
Ezran Oh. Oh, right, that makes a lot more sense.
Callum [Exhales] You're right, though. It feels silly with everything that's going on, but... I don't know how to feel about Rayla, either.
Ezran She's been trying hard to get things back like they were.
Callum But things aren't like they were. And she messed them up, and when she came back, I was so happy... but so mad at the same time. I wish I could just forgive her, but it, it, it's so hard.
Ezran Lots of things are hard, Callum. Like magic. But you figured that out, didn't you?
Callum [Sighs] Yeah. Somehow, relationships seem harder.
Scene Change
Soren returns to the ravine. He grabs his sword and leaps down.
Soren Hey. Pick on someone your own size.
Adult Earthblood Elf This dragon is much bigger than me. Also, who are you?
Soren I'm Soren. And you're the first villain in my adventure.
He blows on a lock of hair which hangs in front of his face and wields his sword. The elf spins the bola and charges towards Soren. Soren swings his sword but misses. He and the elf battle back and forth. The elf flings the bola, it wraps around Soren's sword and disarms him. Soren looks down at his empty hands and cringes.
Soren Yup. Oh.
The elf charges toward Soren and punches him in the face. Soren falls to the ground. He stands as the dragon roars at him. The elf picks up the sword. He waggles it at Soren and Soren puts his hands in the air and surrenders. Then he looks up at a gourd above him.
Soren Looks like you win. What do you win?
He kicks the sword out of the elf’s hand and grabs the gourd.
Soren This fabulous gourd.
He hits the elf with it and knocks him out. The elf falls to the ground. Soren spots the child.
Soren Oh. I completely forgot you were here.
The child leaps over a rock and runs into the forest. Soren turns to the dragon.
Soren You should run. Or fly. You don't want to be here when that kid comes back with more villain types.
The dragon shrieks and lunges forward.
Soren Whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hero here. I'm trying to help you. Go on, go. Go, scram. Sca-doodle.
Soren hurls pulp from the broken gourd onto the face of the dragon and it shrieks.
Soren Uh, easy now.
The dragon lunges at Soren. Suddenly crystal bola's cover the dragons snout and feet.
Soren Oh, that's not good.
Another bola strikes Soren in the head.
Scene Change
Viren, Claudia and Terry gather around a campfire.
Viren It wasn't a lizard in a hat. It was "the dragon in the mountain." He is leading us to Umber Tor, home of the great Rex Igneous.
Claudia So the dragon must know where Aaravos is imprisoned.
Viren Yes.
Terry What a day. You discovered something, and so did I. Ta-da! The funnest substance known to man or elf. I call it... goofy goo.
He squishes the goo, the creature applauds.
Scene Change
The firelight flickers at the camp in the Drakewood forest. Rayla and Stella return. Callum and Ezran gasp.
Ezran What happened? Where's Soren?
Rayla He's not back? We split up, and I assumed...
Callum and Ezran exchange a look.
Rayla Oh, he's fine. Watch, he'll come back reciting an epic poem about his adventuring. He's probably late because he's stuck thinking of a rhyme for "legendary heroics."
Rayla walks off.
Scene Change
In another part of the Drakewood, two elves toss Soren into a deep pit. Soren groans while he lands on a bone, then he tosses it aside. He gets to his feet and looks around at the pit.
Soren Huh?
The dragon steps out of the shadows.
Soren I'm really sorry about throwing gourd goop on you.
Fades to credits.
