The Earth is one of the six Primal Sources of Xadia.

Information

Earth magic draws on the power and energy within the land itself, embodying the enduring strength of stone and the vibrant energy of new life. This source is at its strongest deep underground or in the heart of a forest. It is weaker out at sea, though even pebbles hold a part of this source. The Earth is associated with strength, endurance, healing, stubbornness, growth, deep history, and balance.

Earth magic comes from two major domains: the stone, minerals, crystals, and gems of the land, as well as the flora and fauna of the living world. Some Earthblood Elves may communicate with plants and persuade them to follow their instructions by forming a relationship with them. This type of magical connection includes the growth of giant vines that can be used to restrain a target, or the ability to grow and spread leaves and foliage to provide cover in order to avoid being seen by unwanted eyes.

Earth Primal Stones are natural stones in themselves, often a multifaceted crystal or an orb of petrified wood. They contain the potential of a mighty forest or a towering peak, reflected in dendritic patterns, hairline fractures, and mica crystals. They can be used to terraform someone's surroundings.

Creatures connected to the Earth Primal, such as Earthblood Elves and Earth Dragons, are patient, sometimes stubborn, and care deeply about the history and balance of the natural world. Earth mages can be kind and patient gardeners or wild and feral wanderers. The current Archdragon of the Earth Primal is Rex Igneous.

Arcanum

The arcanum of the Earth is centered around resilience, fortitude, patience, and harmony with nature.

Nexus

The nexus of the Earth is Umber Tor, a great mountain range in the far east of Xadia, which is partly surrounded by the Drakewood, a region inside the Uncharted Forest. The mountain has several underground caverns, including the three "Zones of Peril". It is also the lair of Rex Igneous, an Archdragon of the Earth.

Symbol

The symbol of the Earth resembles three mountain peaks. It can be found engraved in the sides of underground passages or in the notch of an ancient tree. If an item, artifact, or location draws upon Earth magic, one may find angular peaks of three mountains carved into it.

Gems

The magic gems connected to Earth magic are known as Stoneheart Emeralds. They are identified by their forest-green color.

Another gem of the Earth is used by Earthblood Elves of the Drakewood for their bolas that allow them to capture and tame dragons as mounts.

Trivia

• The soil in Xadia caused the Earth rune on the Key of Aaravos to glow. Oddly, the Earth rune never showed any reaction to the soil in the Human Kingdoms.
• The spell "Crystallum Mordo", which creates edible crystals, is a reference to creeping crystal (which is made of rock Candy) from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
• In the "Amor Stella Vitae" spell, the Earth is represented by roots as the ingredient that will tether the body to the living world.
