The Being was a human/elf hybrid messenger and guide created by Aaravos, which hatched out of the cocoon his familiar had spun itself into. His existence served the purpose of leading Claudia, Viren, and Terry to the prison where Aaravos was contained.[4] He was often referred to as Sir Sparklepuff by Claudia and Terry, to Viren's annoyance.[3] As the technical child of both Aaravos and Viren, he was also the sacrifice required for a spell that can make Viren's resurrection permanent.[5] After Viren refused to carry out the depraved act, the Being was killed by Claudia, who carried out the sacrifice in her father's place.[6]
Several weeks after his death, Aaravos summoned the Being's restless spirit from the In-Between to help him create an Eternal Night.[7] However, the Being chose to sacrifice himself when he turned against his father.[8]
Appearance[]
The Being was a skinny human/elf hybrid that heavily resembled his Startouch Elf father, Aaravos. Meager and small in figure, the Being tended to crawl on his elongated fingers and toes instead of walking upright. His skin was light and dark purple in shade, and lighter-colored markings stretch across his upper arms, face, and lower legs. On his chest, he bore the symbol of the Stars, the same one that marks the chest of Aaravos. The features on his elongated head included tiny nostrils, large and yellow-colored eyes, long ears that grow upward, and a fang-like mouth that occasionally spat out a green oozing substance. Like Aaravos, the Being's hair was long and white, resting on his shoulders while pulled behind his bright purple horns. A pair of butterfly-like wings were growing from his back. Generally, the Being's body was bare except for a cloth tied around his waist.[3]
Personality[]
At first glance, the Being seemed to be a mere wild animal with no sense of sapient intellect. However, he actually knew exactly what he was doing, and was able to communicate through drawings and charades.[3] He eventually gained the ability to speak and repeat the phrase "blood of child".[9] He was also willing to die by Viren's hands so that the latter would outlive the resurrection spell's expiration date.[5]
Since the Being was killed by Claudia instead of Viren as intended, his restless spirit grew to resent Aaravos[7] and chose to distract him long enough to give the Archdragons the opening they needed to defeat the Startouch Elf.[8]
Skills and Abilities[]
Star Primal Connection[]
Since he was Aaravos's creation, the Being drew power from the Stars.
Flight[]
The Being possessed butterfly-like wings that granted him the ability to fly.[7]
Trivia[]
- The Being's role in guiding some of the main characters to an important destination is similar to that of Sméagol/Gollum from "The Lord of the Rings", whom the Being bears a moderate resemblance to.
- Terry mixed some of the Being's green ooze with dirt to create a fun putty substance that he calls "goofy goo".[3]
- The Being is the first known human/elf hybrid in the series, the second being Sarai II. Unlike Sarai, he was born artificially instead of naturally.
