Strangers is a side story published through the official website of The Dragon Prince. It revolves around Soren as he reflects on his past with Claudia and Viren. It is part of a short story series called "Reflections".[1]
Summary[]
As Soren struggles to escape from his bindings in the Drakewood so that he can reunite with the rest of Team Zym, he starts to ruminate on important events that happened two years ago. He remembered the time when Ezran became the kindling hope of both Katolis and Xadia, as well as when he named Corvus a Crownguard. Soren then remembered when he reunited with Claudia and tried to bring her back to his side before he became her prisoner.
When Soren tries to bite the cloth gagging his mouth, the difficulty of breathing brings back haunting memories of when he was a sickly boy. Soren remembers the breathing exercises that he learned from Viren and regains control as he hears his resurrected father nearby. Soren refuses to believe that Viren is alive and focuses back on his breathing, only to become lost in memories when he was lying on his bed with Claudia and his mother Lissa by his side, as well as when he chose to kill an illusion of his father to protect Ezran after the battle at the Storm Spire.
Soren eventually returns from his daze as Viren releases the cloth and gently reminds him to breathe in through his nose and out through his mouth, allowing Soren to slowly accept the fact his father is not dead. Soren abruptly refuses Viren's help and tells him to stay away. Viren is disappointed that his son is quick to reject him as an exhausted Claudia, Terry, and the Being return from gathering dark magic ingredients that include a tangle of colorful roots, a clutter of beetle shells, and a skull of a Burrowbeast. Claudia offers Viren the relic staff so that he can perform a spell that will allow them to dig into Umber Tor since an awful thing happened the last time she performed a spell while being exhausted. Viren is hesitant and tells Claudia to perform the spell instead later, which causes Soren to momentarily ponder if his father has changed. Soren then denies that idea, believing that Viren is still the same person he was before his resurrection while reminding himself to breathe in through his nose and out through his mouth.
