Soulfang Serpents are a species of snake-like magical creatures connected to the Moon Primal.[1] They dwell in the black sands of the Midnight Desert in Xadia. Their bite allows them to consume the spirits of their prey, turning them into barely living husks.[2]
Appearance[]
Soulfang Serpents resemble cobras with black scales and an orange stripe running down their head and neck, along with a row of short spines on the top of their body. They have sharp and long fangs for biting their prey, as well as long, forked tongues found in most snakes. Their eyes and throats, which are colored in a lighter gray, emit a green glow in the dark. Their tails resemble that of a rattlesnake.

Information[]
Soulfang Serpents can be highly aggressive and will attack almost anything that enters their territories. Additionally, they are known to hunt in packs.[2] They only come out to hunt at night and burrow underground during the day. If too many burrows are in one place, it could cause the ground to cave in.[4]
Upon returning from one of his latest trips into Xadia, Viren acquired a rather unique specimen: a two-headed Soulfang Serpent. Two heads, two bites, two spirits. When combined with dark magic, it can be used to swap the souls of two living creatures.[5]
The essence of Soulfang Serpents can be converted into a juice used in a dark magic spell that gives the drinker a serpentine lower body.[6]
Skills and Abilities[]
Moon Primal Connection[]
Soulfang Serpents draw their power from the Moon and are at the peak of their power during the night of a full moon.[1]
Soul Eating[]
Soulfang Serpents have a rather unique diet. With just one bite, their fangs can drain and devour the spirit of their prey, turning them into barely living husks. Having their spirit sucked out will cause the victims whole body to turn a sickly pale.[2]
Burrowing[]
Soulfang Serpents can burrow under the black sands of the Midnight Desert with little to no effort.[4]
Trivia[]
- The two-headed Soulfang Serpent is the first and only form of polycephaly currently known in the series; a creature born with two heads instead of one.
- Sand Dragons make it a point to avoid the the Midnight Desert because they detest the Soulfang Serpents.[7]
- The Soulfang Serpents' ability to devour their victim's spirit resembles the Dementors from Harry Potter. However, the Dementors feed on emotional spirit while the Soulfang Serpents feed on physical spirit.
