Ripples is a side story published through the official website of The Dragon Prince. It revolves around how a small action of humanity can create a massive impact on everything around them, and how Aaravos's own action can influence the world. It is part of a short story series called "Reflections" and is the first one of the second volume.[1]

Summary[]

Fallingstar

A story told by Aaravos recalls the time when humans were just starting to use fire for warmth and protection. However, monsters were also drawn towards the manmade flames and began to hunt humans. The humans, in return, looked to the stars for salvation, while the stars disdainfully looked down upon them since humanity was given something that was never meant for them.

One day, a star plummeted from the sky with a brilliant light before it crashed into the earth, creating a calamity that culminated in a terrible darkness. Most of the humans despaired with the idea that the stars had betrayed them, but the wisest of them whispered "patience" with the belief that the world would change for the better.

Light eventually returned to the world, and the humans noticed that the fallen star had caused mountains to crumble and created a vast new sea in their wake. Such power caused the humans to be awed and terrified at the same time. The wisest of the humans looked upon his smiling reflection on the water and imagined if he could gain more power and become more than what he already was. As he touched the surface of the water with his hand, ripples spread from his fingertips.

Aaravos Tears

Unlike the wise human, Aaravos could look through the arrogance of the stars on that day. The stars treated the newborn sea as a perfect mirror for them to look down upon and see their own divine reflections. Aaravos ruminated on how one simple action could change the entire world and he hoped that the stars were watching the moment when their perfect reflections were destroyed by the touch of a single human hand. Aaravos had learned another lesson from the humans before he touched the surface of the water and watched as the ripples spread.

Trivia[]

  • The wise human's whisper of "patience" is a reference to the side story "Patience" that is also centered around Aaravos.
