Summary[]

Mirrorshards

A story told by Aaravos recalls the time when the people of Elarion first reached out to the Stars to beg for their wisdom in an era of famine and a struggle to survive the harsh circumstances they were exposed to. When they first reached out, they learned their first lesson to be the gift of patience.

Abandoned by the Stars they asked for aid, the silent lesson was taught only through humanity's own endurance as they silently gazed upon the night sky. They patiently waited for their knowledge, their guidance, their brilliant light, until one day, the Stars would finally answer their call. Blessed by the Stars they revered, humanity believed for their time to thrive to have come, a future of grand cities and the slaying of great foes awaiting them at the horizon.

However, humans had never received the gift of patience, instead learning it through their own effort. Aaravos describes the Stars to be arrogant beings, indifferent to the fate of mortals, blinded by their own incandescent light and beauty. With their seemingly endless lifespan, they are described to have no need for patience, cruel in their apathy.

Aaravos claims to know the concept of patience. The patience of melted candles, of apple seeds plucked from the flesh of their fruit, planted and nursed until the strongest of them birth new life from rich soil, of a woven tapestry's every thread carefully being crafted. Lastly, he knows the patience of a prisoner who seeks revenge against the very stars that he has not seen for many centuries, wanting his siblings to fall the same way he had.

Trivia[]

  • The term "dark brother" and the phrase "I will savor their fall from the sky" refer to how Aaravos has become a "fallen" Startouch Elf, hinting that this phenomenon may extend to other Startouch Elves.
  • One of the story illustrations shows three chess pieces of Aaravos, including the toppled Ziard, and Viren serving as his current pawn. The third piece shows Callum in the distance, potentially hinting at a future connection between the two.
  • The story's title was largely inspired by Aaravos's quote in the episode "Sol Regem", in which he says "Do not despair. Be patient, your time will come. You have put things in motion."[2]
