Ocean Dragons are one of the six classes of dragons found in Xadia. They possess a connection to the magical energy of the Ocean.

Instead of hiding in reclusive stillness, scholars believe Ocean dragons are quite social, but even so, they are not a common sight in Xadia. Like the Ocean, they live in a kind of constant, even sleepless motion.

When they disappear into Xadia's waters, be it a great sea or a tiny stream, Ocean dragons become part of their Primal Source and its power, in ways that few other magical creatures can ever hope to experience.[1]

Coral Dragons[]

Coral Dragons are massive in size and resemble coral reefs, with an elongated body with two front flippers, as well as two legs on the bottom half of their bodies. They generally resemble seahorses with small heads and elegant coral crowns. They are a living reef in every sense; they have coral reef-like scales branching out in all directions across their body, and each scale provides a habitat to hundreds of smaller sea creatures. They are known to lie peacefully on the ocean floor, and are perhaps the most elegant of all known dragons.[1]

Crested Shore Drakes[]

Crested Shore Drakes are average-sized dragons native to the southern beaches. They shoulder massive, hard crests that resemble sea foam or clouds that allow them to camouflage within the ocean waves, and despite its soft appearance, it is hard as bone and makes for an ultimate form of defense.[1] Like the Fire Dragons, their muzzles sport a pair of long whiskers. They are capable of both flying in the air and swimming underwater, as well as firing powerful torrents of water from their mouths.[2] They spend their time wading through the shoreline where the tide rolls in.

Depthcrawler Dragons[]

Depthcrawler Dragons are large and terrifying, with long flat bodies and massive eyes. They are usually found in a family of three, dwelling several hundred feet below the Oceans surface where the most prominent and powerful currents are focused. A family can synchronize their movements and harness great amounts of Ocean Magic, manipulating the very direction of the Ocean and repelling any attacker. They are rare, and it is rumored that their eggs can randomly hatch Whirlpool Dragons.[1]

Frost Wyrms[]

Frost Wyrms are four-winged, two-legged wyrms. Their underbelly appears to be covered in fur and their heads grow several long horns. Their bodies are covered with diamond-shaped scales that rise off their skin and appear transparent and glass-like. However, their beauty is deceiving, as they can breathe a jet of jagged ice knives. They are known to hide high in the Xadian mountains, and when they run or beat their wings, their scales make a tinkling sound, like and orchestra of wind-chimes.[1]

Hot Springs Dragons[]

Hot Springs Dragons have skin that appears translucent, with boiling water raging underneath. They live in the mountains, and there are tales of these dragons descending on a bitterly cold winter night long ago to provide hot water to a freezing elven village.[1]

Kelp Dragons[]

Kelp Dragons have long green tendrils that snake off its body, providing camouflage as it nestles amongst the beds of kelp and other aquatic plant life. Even larger Ocean creatures fear the strike of a Kelp Dragon from its hiding place. Its huge, unblinking eyes are likely the first thing one would be able to spot if they come across it.[1]

Underglow Dragons[]

Underglow Dragons are very rare, massive dragons resembling anglerfish, bearing long, sharp teeth, with a large mouth that takes up a disproportionate amount of their body. Their heads are dotted with several eyes and large fins spread off from the sides of their heads. They use a heatless, glowing yellow lure to attract fish that it can gobble up.

At first, scholars mistook them as rare Sun Dragons due to the glowing lure attached to their heads, until one diver escaped a watery doom and reported the icy horror of touching the lure.[1]

Unnamed Ocean Dragons[]

These unnamed Ocean Dragons are enormous and powerful dragons with a blue back and a white underside. They have four large fins on the sides of their head and a pair of long upward golden horns with a blue and round pustule protruding from their forehead. A pair of long blue tendrils extend from their shoulders and their tail fin resembles that of a whale. They also have a set of fin-like wings on their arms that allow them to swim underwater and fly in the air.[3] They can blast a powerful torrent of water from their mouths[4] and generate powerful storms that can sink multiple ships.[5]

Whirlpool Dragons[]

Whirlpool Dragons are rumored to hatch from randomly from the eggs of the already rare Depthcrawler Dragon, Whirlpool Dragons have similarly flat bodies, but are more lean, muscular, and predatory. They are deeply suspicious of humans and the threat they present to magical creatures, so they are known to spend weeks quietly making their way into a bustling human port, hoping to use their ability to swim in a circle to summon a whirlpool to sink, crush, and otherwise destroy human fishing vessels.[1]
