Ocean Dragons are one of the six classes of dragons found in Xadia. They possess a connection to the magical energy of the Ocean and are uncommon to encounter due to always being in motion, regardless of their social nature. Their habitat includes the ocean and even streams, and they merge with their liquid surroundings upon entering a body of water.[1]
Coral Dragons[]
Coral Dragons resemble coral reefs that lie on the bottom of the ocean. Like any reef, fish use their scales as a living habitat. Great in size, these dragons have elongated bodies with two front flippers, as well as two legs on the bottom half of their bodies. They generally resemble seahorses with small heads and elegant coral crowns.[1]
Crested Shore Drakes[]
Crested Shore Drakes are large dragons native to the southern beach shorelines. They shoulder massive, hard crests that resemble sea foam or clouds that allow them to camouflage within the ocean waves.[1] Their muzzles sport a pair of long whiskers. They are capable of both flying in the air and swimming underwater, as well as firing powerful jets of water from their mouths.[2]
Depthcrawler Dragons[]
Depthcrawler Dragons are rare, deep-dwelling dragons that stir the course of the ocean currents. A family will usually consist of three dragons. Their bodies are long and flat, and their massive eyes can induce terror. It is rumored that their eggs can hatch Whirlpool Dragons.[1]
Frost Wyrms[]
Frost Wyrms are four-winged, two-legged wyrms with transparent, diamond-shaped scales which sound like wind chimes upon moving. They are capable of breathing jagged knives of ice. Their underbelly appears to be covered in fur and their heads grow several long horns. They live up in high mountains.[1]
Hot Springs Dragons[]
Hot Springs Dragons are mountain dragons said to be able to provide warmth. Their skin is translucent with boiling water raging underneath.[1]
Kelp Dragons[]
Kelp Dragons hide away between kelp and other plant life, blending in perfectly due to their green tendrils. They are feared even by larger creatures due to being perfectly camouflaged.[1]
Underglow Dragons[]
Underglow Dragons are rare, massive dragons resembling anglerfish, bearing sharp teeth. Their heads are dotted with several eyes and large fins spread off from the sides of their heads. They were first mistaken as Sun Dragons due to the glowing lure attached to their heads, though a diver lived to tell the tale of the ice that erupted from the dragon's bait.[1]
Whirlpool Dragons[]
Whirlpool Dragons are rumored to hatch from Depthcrawler Dragon eggs, appearing similar in appearance with the exception of a more muscular build. Not fond of humans, they try to summon whirlpools to drown human fishing vessels at ports.[1]
Notable Ocean Dragons[]
- Domina Profundis (Archdragon of the Ocean ♀)
Trivia[]
