Nightmares & Revelations is the thirty-ninth episode of The Dragon Prince. It is the third chapter of the fifth book, "Ocean".
Callum and Rayla arrive in Xadia to find royal wedding planning in full swing. Claudia and Terry make their way down the river while Viren sleeps on.
Plot[]
Zubeia takes Ezran, Zym, Soren, and Corvus to a large clearing before she lets out a powerful roar that summons the dragons of Xadia to gather before her. Once the dragons have settled, Zubeia allows Ezran to beseech them into finding Claudia and Viren so that Aaravos will not be liberated from his prison. After a moment of silence, all of the dragons let out roars of agreement.
At the Sunfire Elf camp, Janai wakes up from a nightmare of the time when Aaravos corrupted Lux Aurea and killed her sister Khessa. Amaya comforts Janai, who then believes that she needs a distraction from the recurring nightmares. Janai happily agrees to help Amaya in choosing the right type of flower for their wedding.
Terry picks a blue flower for Claudia and continues to row their raft down the river as Viren's fever dream returns to the point when he used dark magic to bring back a sickly toddler Soren. However, Viren's corrupted appearance causes the terrified toddler Soren to run away, leaving the former saddened and alone. Viren confesses that he had no choice as he views the magic mirror that shows the reflection of his younger self. He is then horrified when the reflection transforms to reveal his corrupted appearance.
Callum, Rayla, Bait, Stella, and their Shadowpaw arrive at the Sunfire Elf Camp before they are greeted by Gren. Gren takes Callum's group to the royal tent while explaining that the humans and the elves in the camp are getting along despite some disagreements. Gren is then surprised that Callum's group are oblivious to Amaya's engagement with Janai, but he decides to let them find out on their own.
Janai finds herself unable to choose between sunset violets and crimson orchids despite encouragements from Amaya and Kazi. Callum's group soon enters the royal tent and are thrilled to learn that Amaya is marrying Janai. When Janai asks what had brought Callum to the camp, he sheepishly say that the world might actually be ending.
Viren finds himself at the shores of a red ocean underneath an eclipse within his fever dream. He turns back to find a toddler Claudia happily following in his footsteps before she turns into her current adult self.
Callum is explaining Team Zym's recent adventure in detail to Amaya, Janai, Gren, and Kazi before Rayla decides to make a much shorter summary. Janai is alarmed upon hearing that Aaravos is the same Startouch Elf who killed Khessa and forbids Callum's group from venturing into the Great Bookery due to Lux Aurea's corrupted state.
Karim wanders aimlessly in the middle of a Xadian desert when his water supply is diminished. Parched and angry, Karim falls on his knees before he demands the sun to give him a sign that shows not all is lost. Just then, Karim sees a Sunfire Elf approaching him from the horizon. Confused and afraid, Karim chooses to make a run for a nearby rock formation.
Rayla is confused that Janai forbids her and Callum from venturing into Lux Aurea. Janai tells Callum's group that Aaravos's corruption of Lux Aurea proved to be too dangerous and every attempt to reclaim the city resulted in the survivors forcing to kill every human and elf who had been infected. Despite Callum and Rayla's insistence, Janai's decision of forbidding further travels to Lux Aurea stands.
Viren sees Claudia walking into the red ocean while picking the petals of the blue flower from Terry and chases after her when a large tidal wave begins to form. The fever dream parallels Claudia and her group who are floating through some rapids.
Callum and Rayla are exasperated that Janai and Amaya are treating them like children despite their experiences of fighting alongside one another at the Storm Spire. Callum's group attempt of sneaking out from the camp are foiled by Amaya and Gren, who decide to accompany them in their journey to Lux Aurea.
Claudia's group continue to brave the turbulent rapids before the Being alerts them about an approaching waterfall. Viren continues his attempt in saving Claudia in his fever dream, even after the tidal wave swallowed them. Viren is then knocked overboard after the raft fell down the waterfall.
Amaya finds Janai praying to the Sun Seed when the latter is not surprised that Callum and his group are insisting on going to Lux Aurea. Despite Janai's wish of riding into battle alongside Amaya, her new responsibilities as the Sunfire Queen compels her to stay in the camp to protect her people. Due to the immense danger Aaravos poses to the world, Janai and Amaya know that their wedding needs to be delayed.
Karim ambushes the mysterious Sunfire Elf, believing that the latter is an assassin that Janai sent to finish him off. The Sunfire Elf reveals himself as Pharos, the former Sunfire High Priest who was believed to be dead after the fall of Lux Aurea. Pharos gives his water canteen to Karim and he pledges his allegiance to the banished prince. Karim regains his ambition of overthrowing Janai when Pharos proclaims that only he can lead the Sunfire Elves back to their former glory.
Terry uses his powers to make vines tie the raft to their tree as Claudia dives in to rescue Viren. Claudia's actions parallel Viren's as he tries to rescue her inside his fever dream. Viren then finds himself holding the relic staff before he is greeted by a corrupted Claudia holding the Sun staff. Viren is appalled that Claudia is also willing to do whatever it takes to protect their family, however dangerous and however vile before vanishing. At the same time, Claudia succeeds in rescuing Viren and carries him to shore, but panics when she discovers that he is not breathing.
Callum's group prepare to depart for Lux Aurea when Kazi chooses to join them, partly because they want to return several borrowed books that have been overdue for more than two years. Janai arrives and gives her blessing to the group before she gives Amaya her sword that has been decorated with a crimson orchid. Amaya is happy that Janai managed to choose the type of flower she wants for their wedding and that she will be fighting by their side in spirit. Janai tells the group to keep each other safe before they ride for Lux Aurea.
Claudia attempts to resuscitate Viren as he finds himself before his younger self. Viren's younger self succeeds in convincing his older self that he still possesses the freedom to forge a new path. A tearful Claudia hugs Viren after he woke up from his fever dream, but is forced to cut the reunion short when they see a dragon flying overhead.
