Neolandia is one of the five Human Kingdoms, known for surviving in a harsh desert environment. Its signature colors are white, black, and gold, and its symbol is an elephant.[1]
History[]
Neolandia was formed as one of the five kingdoms following the Mage Wars, after the banishment of humanity to the western side of the continent.
During the battle at the Storm Spire, Neolandia joined Viren's forces in a war against Xadia, led by Prince Kasef.[2]
Geography[]
Neolandia is located in the Northwest of the Human Kingdoms and is shaped like the head of an elephant. Despite it consisting of mainly harsh desert lands, a few large rivers pass through Neolandia. These rivers, however, do not seem easily accessible, as a constant struggle to obtain water plagues the land.[3] Like with many deserts, oases are an occasional occurrence, where verdant vegetation and fresh water becomes accessible.[4]
Wildlife[]
Neolandian deserts are rumored to be home to so-called "Solar Remoras" and "Abyssal Whales", leviathans of the dunes, though others are sceptical of this statement. Cascader Skinks frequent the city and tropical birds can be spotted throughout the nation. Neolandian Elephants are a revered species in the kingdom.[4]
Culture and Customs[]
A constant struggle to obtain water and food has borne a resourceful yet hierarchical civilization inside Neolandia. The towering palace of the kingdom stands as a monument among the barren dunes of the northern desert lands. In the face of great scarcity, the resourceful people of Neolandia have developed a rich culture or trade and barter, while still maintaining a massive, well-trained army.[3]
Neolandia is allied with Duren and Katolis, despite the latest war history, with Duren serving as supplier of agricultural innovations to improve Neolandian farming. The kingdom is also in respectful standing with Del Bar. Its relationship with Evenere is currently unknown.[4]
Government[]
Neolandia's form of government is a hereditary monarchy. It was ruled by King Ahling until he was badly wounded in an assassination attempt carried out by Viren's resurrected elven assassins, leaving him in a coma.[5] Following this incident, his firstborn son and heir, Prince Kasef, took over leadership until his demise during the battle at the Storm Spire. The kingdom is still ruled by King Ahling's family, though others have shown interest in the throne.[4]
Military[]
Neolandia is known for its large and well-trained army forces.[3] The garments of Neolandian soldiers consist of loose black and gold clothing with white agals around their heads serving to tolerate the sweltering and arid desert climate of their homeland.
Traditions and Law[]
For Neolandia, seasons change when rain pours onto the nation, which is the same time elephant calves are usually born. During winter, villagers will host large wintertime bazaars dedicated to bartering and the trading of gifts, where loved ones exchange small trinkets, which they will then barter to exchange them for items of greater value. The final item will then be presented to the gifter over a special meal of flatbread and tea, which is a tradition inspired by the local legend "A Peanut for a Palace",[6] a story in which an orphan girl traded her way from a single peanut to owning a palace.[4]
Neolandians revere Neolandian elephants, using their images for a large part of their architecture and design. They are known as companions and ridden as mounts, and riches are awarded to the champions of the traditional elephant jousting tournaments.[4]
Fashion[]
Neolandians often adorn themselves with gold and gems to show off their wealth.[4]
Food[]
Neolandians appear to cultivate vegetables such as broccoli on their farmlands.[7] During the winter holidays, Neolandians like to share a cardamon sesame flatbread in combination with a cup of hot tea.[6] Celebratory feasts feature complex magma-hot spices that have brought many foreign warriors to their knees.[4]
Notable Locations[]
Eboreus[]
Eboreus lies in the northern desert lands of Neolandia, cut off from the rest of the kingdom by a large river. A port city designed in the image of an elephant's tusk, its main waterway is covered by bridges, and canals fork off the river. It is also the hub of Neolandia's internal and domestic trade.[4] It is currently the only known city of the kingdom.
