Moon Dragons are one of the six classes of dragons found in Xadia. They possess a connection to the magical energy of the Moon.
Moon Dragons powers make use of illusion, illumination, and shadow-craft. Some Moon Dragons are affected by various phases of the moon cycle. Historically, Moon Dragons have made great impacts on life in Xadia.
They are perceived as beautiful and elusive, but also with an air of mystery that matches their distant Primal.[1]
Dreamwhisper Drakes[]
Dreamwhisper Drakes are rare wingless dragons that are incredibly small. Docile and placid, these uncommon creatures hover high in the Sky using their mysterious magic. Taking a Dreamwhisper Drake in one's hands is not even an option; a strange force propels them away from other people and objects. Half or completely asleep most of the time, it is rumored that they eat dreams instead of food.[1]
Dusk Dragons[]
Dusk Dragons can only be spotted during the final waning hours of daylight. Few humans have laid eyes upon these creatures. Some Moonshadow Elves believe they come out at dusk to coax the Moon itself into the night sky across the entirety of Xadia.[1]
Eclipse Dragons[]
Eclipse Dragons are bold and frightening to behold. These powerful yet scarce dragons change into something new and dangerous at the turn of each cycle of the moon. This can change their entire personality; no surprise to the dragon, but quite confounding to whatever foolish hunter might be stalking them. They are subject to single days of extreme weakness when their transitioning eclipse occurs, which is a lone spot of good luck for their enemies.[1]
Enigma Dragons[]
Enigma Dragons are thin and wiry, and their colors vary the most of any Moon Dragon. The greatest of tricksters, they delight in laying complicated traps for humans and elves and enjoying the results from a safe distance.[1]
Harvest Moon Dragons[]
Harvest Moon Dragons are colored bright orange, speckled with crimson and canary yellow. A highly social and traditionally quite friendly sort of Dragon, they delight in dive bombing villages to playfully shake the leaves off the trees. However, the sight of one is uncommon and they have never been seen outside of the autumn season. Villages fortunate enough to be visited are considered magically lucky.[1]
Midnight Dragons[]
Midnight Dragons scales are pitch black and their eyes are sensitive to any sort of light. Despite their ominous name, they are the most shy of all Moon Dragon and quite harmless. They frequently choose to live deep beneath the ground where they can find comfortable, absolute darkness.[1]
Mirage Dragons[]
Mirage Dragons are one of the rare Moon Dragons to primary appear during the day. They act much like their Phantasm Dragons cousins, except they disappear from a distance long before anyone can attempt to reach out and test their corporealness. This disappearance act resembles a mirage, giving them their name.[1]
Phantasm Dragons[]
Phantasm Dragons never take the same form twice, possibly because the version of themselves they present is not really them. This means no one knows what they really look like. Famously impossible to kill, their primary skill is projecting versions of themselves that are not really there and dissipate completely if touched by another creature.[1]
Phase Dragons[]
|
Phase Dragons, also known as Moon Dust Dragons (named so because when they become visible, they look like gathering dust), are large, but also fairy-like and eerily beautiful. They are nearly transparent most of the time, a mere outline. They are only more visible, powerful, and corporeal when the phase of the Moon they were hatched under rises.[1]
Even then, they can only spend one night walking, communicate with others, and fly a short height off the ground. They can use the spell "Manifestum Corpus" to manifest their bodies. They can also use the spell "Fit Invisibilia" that allows them to fade from sight after using bright moonlight to shimmer.[2]
Shadow Dragons[]
|
Shadow Dragons consist almost entirely of two giant billowing wings, it is hard to discern their real shape, as they look like a silhouette. This uniquely two-dimensional appearance makes it difficult to see their limbs and faces amongst the broad outline of those haunting wings. On clear nights, they like to fly low to the ground where they play at casting the largest possible shadow.[1]
Unnamed Moon Dragons[]
|
These unnamed Moon Dragons are enormous and powerful dragons that are slim silvery-white with a pair of feather-like growths on the back of their head. Two of these plumes expand past the average length. They have a pair of bull-like downward-curving horns and an unusually long tail with a large feather at the tip that forked in two. Their wings are large and butterfly-like.[3]
