Magical Artifacts

Magical Artifacts are often used to harness certain magical properties or abilities and conduct or control various sources of magic or cast spells. They can be diverse and varied in shapes and sizes, but they are also mysterious and strange, and knowledge about some of them is often rare.

Aaravos's Prison

Aaravos's Prison is a magical prison used to contain the Startouch Elf Archmage Aaravos, who was imprisoned as a punishment for a thousand years of crises he had brought upon the world. The inhabitants of Xadia believed he was too powerful to risk a direct confrontation, so they instead used deception and conspiracy to get him to lower his guard so they could seal him away. The prison was created by a human mage known as the Jailer, with help from the Tidebound Elf Archmage Akiyu.

The prison itself resembles a large, beautiful, white pearl. It was hidden underwater in the middle of the Sea of the Castout, hidden in the mouth of a giant clam. The primary security measure of this prison was that no one knew where it was located, each of the Archdragons had a piece of the puzzle, but not one of them had the full picture.

After Avizandum was slain and the enchanted looking glass he used to keep watch over Aaravos was stolen by Viren, he and his daughter Claudia went on a quest to find the prison and free Aaravos. In response, Team Zym had to find and retrieve the prison themselves.

Abyssal Incenses

Abyssal Incenses are incense sticks made from the fur of Shadowpaws. Inhaling their smoke temporarily perfects someone's memory of the last month they experienced, allowing them to recall details they may have originally missed.

Amulets

Amulets are ornaments worn around one's neck that have been enchanted with magic and allow their wearers to perform specific spells, determined by the spell runes inscribed on them. A notable amulet is the one that Akiyu gave to Team Zym that would give the wearer "mage gills", allowing them to breathe underwater.

Ancient Rune-Beacon

The ancient rune-beacon is a lighthouse on the eastern coast of Xadia that can be used to summon Domina Profundis in a time of need. The Siren Stone is the required key to activate the beacon.

Andesite Pauldrons

Andesite Pauldrons are pieces of shoulder armor welded with volcanic rock and forged in the Sunforge of Lux Aurea. Their runes provide partial protection from any heat source, including Sun magic.

Assassin's Bindings

Assassin's bindings are ribbon-like objects that are imbued with Moon magic and are used by Moonshadow Elf assassins as an oath of honor binding them to their mission. During a ritual to swear an oath, the white bindings are wrapped around a body part, usually a wrist or arm, and bind an assassin to their mission until their target has been taken out or until they suffer the consequences of their failure. The number of bindings worn by an assassin reflect the number of targets of a mission. Only once a target is killed, does the binding release itself and turn red, becoming a "blood ribbon". After the target dies, the binding corresponding to that target will fall off of all assassins who had bound themselves to that target, even if they did not participate in the actual assassination.

However, if a target is not eliminated, the binding will tighten over time, constricting a user's blood flow and eventually severing the bound body part. The bindings are enchanted to be indestructible by Moonshadow Elf magic, which makes it impossible to remove by outside forces. Not even a genuine Sunforge blade leaves so much as a scorch mark. The only known thing capable of surpassing the enchantment and forcefully breaking off the ribbon is the primal magic of an Archdragon, as shown by Azymondias when he was able to near-effortlessly break off Rayla's binding with his teeth.

Ironically, the binding could also be used to save the target's life under the right circumstances; after Ezran dove into the frozen lake to save the egg of Azymondias and it seemed like he drowned, Rayla noticed the binding linked to Ezran had not fallen off, proving he was still alive, which gave Rayla and Callum the chance to save him.

Claudia's Ocarina

Claudia's ocarina is a magical musical instrument. When she plays it, anyone who hears the music will get tired and fall asleep. Even Rex Igneous, an Archdragon of the Earth, could not resist its effects. Though it is a light sleep; if, for example, someone had a thorn poking at them, then they would be able to stay awake. Furthermore, it is not difficult to wake someone who was put to sleep by the music, for a cut or a foul odor can easily act as a wake-up call.

Claw of Initium Et Finis

The Claw of Initium Et Finis is a nearly weightless, claw-shaped artifact the size of an oven. Contained within a glass box, the claw is rumored to belong to a Void Dragon.

Corona of the Heavens

The Corona of the Heavens is a magical artifact that holds three Quasar Diamonds, which are rumored to be the only ones in existence. It is kept in the Star Scraper and guarded by the Celestial Elves.

Cuirass of Vuxen

The Cuirass of Vuxen is a relict created by Innean's blacksmith, which is forged from the city's rare metals and enhanced with Sky magic. It is capable of redirecting Earth and Sky magic and prevents a carrier from being frozen into a magical state by the Primal Well.

Curlcoral Cutlass

The Curlcoral Cutlass is forged from light clay and an arm of curlcoral containing Ocean magic. Due to the sturdiness and regenerative properties of curlcoral, this weapon can take on more than a regular sword. It needs to be occassionally submerged in water for maintenance and will take longer to regrow after being shattered twice. It is said to currently be found in Neolandia.

Flame Ribbons

Flame Ribbons are ribbons that ignite with flames when they are used. They are used as an accessory by dancers and are part of a traditional Sunfire Elf marriage proposal. They can easily be mistaken for fire whips.

Flexxenboom Bracelet

The Flexxenboom Bracelet is a piece of accessories that fits the shape of its wearer. Saving Sky energy, it can discharge a loud and bright blast of lightning. It was originally owned by a Skywing Elf mage named Flexxen.

Hollowhush Quills

Hollowhush Quills are quills forged from glass that are imbued with Sky magic, used to relay messages by whispering them into the tool and that can be stored for around one hour. While their origin is unclear, they appear to be crafted by Skywing Elves.

Hopclog Stompers

Hopclog Stompers are rubbery clogs formed from tree roots that are surprisingly light and comfortable. They take on the form of an Earth spell rune, and allow the wearer to have a spring in their step when moving on soil, rock, or other natural grounds.

Kelp of Love Knots

Kelp of Love Knots are love knots made of kelp made by Tidebound Elves as part of their traditional marriage proposal.

Key of Aaravos

The Key of Aaravos is a magical dice-like cube with runes that dictate the six Primal Sources on all sides. When in the presence of a magical creature or a Primal Source, its respective rune glows. It originally belonged to the Startouch Elf Archmage Aaravos before it came into the possession of the Orphan Queen, a female ancestor of Atticus, Harrow, and Ezran, and was passed down in their family for generations. According to Harrow, legends claim that it unlocks something of great power in Xadia.

Each time Callum rolls the cube, it leaves marks pointing into the same direction, almost as if it is being pulled towards something.

Kim'dael's Lantern

An enchanted lantern used by the descendants of Aditi to summon Kim'dael, who owes their family a magical life debt. By igniting the lantern, the Bloodmoon Huntress will know that she is being called.

Magic Gems

These rare gems contain primal magic and can be crushed to cast spells; a useful tool used by non-mages to make up for their lack of spell knowledge. For instance, Runaan used a Moon Opal to cast "Mystica-Arbora", a spell of invisibility. Moon Opals can also be used to replicate an event of the past as an illusion through the use of a spell named "Historia Viventem". A moonstone can be used to create an illusion, and a Fire Ruby may be crushed to create a fireball.

The classifications of magic gems according to which Primal Source they correspond with are as follows: Fire Rubies for Sun magic; Aquamarines for Ocean magic; Sky Sapphires for Sky magic; Stoneheart Emeralds for Earth magic; Moon Opals for Moon magic; and Quasar Diamonds for Star magic. It is known that Quasar Diamonds are the rarest of all, being stated by the Earthblood Elf N'than as being as few as three in number in the whole world.

Magic Mirror

An enchanted mirror that Viren stole from the dragon lair inside the Storm Spire with Ancient Draconic runes inscribed on its frame that translate to "In Darkness, Gaze Upon a Fallen Star". It was created to protect the world from an ancient and mysterious threat, with Runaan describing it as "something worse than death". It was eventually revealed that when no light reflects off the mirror's surface, it becomes as clear a window, allowing one to view through its identical counterpart. The mirror was created so that Avizandum could keep an eye on Aaravos and make sure he remained trapped in his magical prison. Before Viren stole the mirror, it was kept close to where Avizandum and Zubeia slept.

Metal Lotus

A metal lotus is a handcrafted artifact of the Moonshadow Elves, namely produced by their craftsman Ethari. It serves the purpose of signaling whether an assassin has survived or failed their mission when sent out. Each assassin receives a lotus, which is then placed inside a pool in the Silvergrove, and the lotus sinks to the bottom if its user has died. If the user's life force is difficult to locate, as with Runaan upon being trapped inside an enchanted coin, the lotus will slightly sink, but not to the bottom of the pool.

Mirror of Anti-Vanity

The Mirror of Anti-Vanity was carved from the beak of a Kookaburrow and is imbued with dark magic. It was created by a now-deceased Del Barian dark mage and is now owned by another.

Nova Blade

The Nova Blade is a magical sword that is connected to Star magic. The writings about it in the Great Bookery are somewhat cryptic, but it is believed that this weapon possesses the power to kill Startouch Elves, as the Startouch Elf Laurelion was made "no more" by this blade. It is kept in the Star Scraper and guarded by the Celestial Elves.

Primal Stones

Primal Stones are powerful artifacts that act as conduits to Primal Sources even when the source itself is not immediately available. They give a mage access to primal energy anywhere, anytime: Sun magic in darkness, Earth magic at sea, and Moon magic during the day. They are also the only means by which a human not connected to an arcanum can use primal magic. But Primal Stones are incredibly rare; only master mages can craft them, and the crafting rituals themselves have largely been lost to time.

Primal Stones were gifted to the humans of Elarion by the unicorn Leola as a way to help them through famine by giving them the opportunity to cast spells.

Primal Well

The Primal Well is a chest-sized chunk of marble, faceted like a diamond, reverberating with the residual magic it collects from the air around it, which kept the city of Innean afloat. The artifact uses both Sky and Earth magic to function. If anyone touches the Primal Well without wearing the Cuirass of Vuxen to protect themselves from its powerful magic, the person making contact would be frozen into a magical statue.

Queen Pothos Ring

The Queen Pothos Ring is a wooden ring with a carving of a pothos leaf on it. Imbued with Earth magic, it can be used to sprout tiny leaves from a wearer's fingertips, allowing them to breathe through their hands.

Satchel of Sprinklebit Suspension

The Satchel of Sprinklebit Suspension contains tiny specks of dust that suspend in the air and pop into colorful lights and are harvested from polled containing Sun magic. They can be used as an alarm trap or distraction, thanks to being hardly visible while in flight.

Sea Glass Pendants

Sea Glass Pendants are trinkets that Tidebound Elves crafted out of sea glass.

Shadowhawks

Shadowhawks are bird-shaped arrows that transform into smoky, illuminated hawks when fired. They transform when given the name of their recipient in Ancient Draconic speech. An example is Runaan sending one to the Dragon Queen Zubeia to let her know their mission of killing King Harrow was complete.

Each arrow has a different meaning. A black arrow carries a message of death and a white arrow carries a message of life.

Shadowlife Candles

Shadowlife Candles are candles made from the blood of Moon Phoenixes mixed with either earwax of dragons or wax from Durenian Bees. These candles allow mages to create smoky afterimages of deceased living creatures that will do the caster's bidding after sprinkling their ashes on the flame, which turns purple upon contact.

Silken Slinkstockings

Silken Slinkstockings are woven from the silk of rare Crescentpillar Worms, allowing for silent movement.

Siren Stone

The Siren Stone is a massive magical gem that serves as the activation key to the ancient rune-beacon on the eastern coast of Xadia, which is used to summon Domina Profundis. It is an Aquamarine that shines with a soft blue light, and is contained inside an ornate chest. It was given to Zubeia after Domina Profundis became a recluse following the Empress of the Deep's murder by greedy humans and elves.

Soul Candles

Soul Candles are used in a memorial tradition of the Sunfire Elves, to return the souls of their deceased back to the Sun Primal. Plumerias can be used as their scent. A Soul Candle will be lit on the evening of the day the person died while the life of the lost one is remembered and honored one last time, burning for one entire night to guide the soul of the deceased through the darkness of death and return them to the sun at dawn. If the flame goes out before dawn for any reason, then the soul is lost. The flame that burns on the candle is known as the "spirit flame".

Staffs

Staffs can be used to cast spells. Not much is known about them other than that they are often wielded by mages and embedded with a Primal Stone. The relic staff, the first object that allowed humanity to make use of dark magic, was gifted to Ziard by Aaravos, one of the "Great Ones" and eventually made its way into the hands of Viren.

Sun's Tears Ointment

Sun's Tears ointment is a type of healing salve made from the ground dried petals of Sun's Tears that can be used to heal wounds.

Sunforge Equipment

Sunforge equipment is an umbrella term for rare, magical weapons and armor forged by Sunfire Elves inside the Sunforge of Lux Aurea. This equipment is enchanted with Sun magic, giving the pieces unique properties that make them very valuable. They are kept in sheaths that are inscribed with runes to protect the wielders from the weapon's extreme heat.

Tome of Translation

The Tome of Translation is an ancient magical book, a reference guide of ancient runes. According to Callum, the book seems to have pretty much every rune and symbol in history. The second half of the book is blank, meant for writing on; any runic script written on a page on the left side will automatically be magically copied over and translated on the right side. It should be noted that there is nothing in the first half of the book that matches the writing on Avizandum's looking glass.

True-sight Serums

True-sight serums are potions that, once applied to the user's eyes, can strip away all illusions and see things for what they really are. These serums were originally created before the fall of Elarion by the Oracles of Ophidia through extracting venom from the harvested fangs of Eyeless Vipers on moonless nights. However, a single stray beam of moonlight can taint the serum, and one dose of a tainted serum can drive a person into complete insanity. Applying the serum is immensely painful and appears to be hot to the touch, whilst emitting a dark purple smoke for a brief moment after making contact with the user's eyes. However, it is unable to break the enchantment applied to the magic mirror.

Viren's Coins

Viren's coins are unique, magical containers stashed away inside a coin pouch, which he carried with him at all times until they came into the possession of Claudia, who eventually passed them over to Rayla after being convinced by Terry that keeping them after revealing them would be unnecessarily cruel. These coins contain the souls of Kpp'Ar, Runaan, Tiadrin, and Lain. Imprisoning a soul is achieved by using a dark magic spell, which slowly drains a person's soul from their body. Once a soul is inside a coin, its life force is trapped between life and death and can no longer be fully detected by other magic. Although Runaan was able to move inside his coin upon being captured, the coins later appeared in a permanent stasis, capturing a single expression of their victims. However, Kpp'Ar is also capable of moving inside his coin.

Wingalings

Wingalings are silver gadgets resembling mice that are equipped with a pair of wings and adorned with several different gems. Originally crafted as a protection device for Rayla, these devices are activated by casting "Liga Et Annecto", which will cause them to light up. In times of peril, they work as an emergency alarm to alert Ethari that something is amiss.
