Innean was a small floating city (also referred to as town) that was isolated from the rest of elven society in Xadia and was powered by the Primal Well. It was initially inhabited by a small population of Skywing Elves and was later abandoned after it collided with a mountainside. It is the main location of the Tales of Xadia - Lost Oasis campaign.[1]

History[]

Innean was an isolated city inhabited by a small population of Skywing Elves that had lived in harmony for centuries, separated from the rest of Xadian Skywing culture and unaware of Xadia's politics and conflicts with humanity. Due to its constantly moving state, as well as powerful wind currents complicating travel in and out of the city, visitors eventually stopped coming to Innean, leaving it forgotten. Over the years, the city drifted west and was doomed to collide with a mountainside along the Border, a fate predicted by the Skywing Elf mage Siftress who warned the Keeper of the Primal Well, Nausics, of this possibility. Fearing the city to be doomed, Nausics decided to take the Primal Well, the city's core artifact, for himself, using other elves to experiment with the rare artifact by having them touch it, resulting in their bodies freezing. After his experiments stayed unsuccessful, Nausics commissioned a special cuirass from the city's blacksmith, Vuxen, which would allow him to steal the Primal Well.

Some time after the battle at the Storm Spire,[2] Innean came to close to collision with the mountainside, leading the Moonshadow Elf mage Feathershawl to hire an independent group to enter the city and retrieve the Primal Well for their own use. Despite them claiming that the city had been been abandoned, the group found it to still be inhabited by Skywing Elves who needed to be aided in their escape before the inevitable collision. Eventually, Innean was evacuated by the adventurers through various options, before it collided with the mountains and finally disappeared for good. (Whether the Primal Well was taken by Feathershawl or Nausics, or did not make it out of the city at all, is determined by the Player Characters' decisions in the "Lost Oasis" campaign.)[1]

Geography[]

Innean was a floating city in the sky that hovered near a mountainside at the Border after being driven west for several years.

Architecture[]

The city of Innean hovered on a circular rock foundation and was primarily built from well-kept cobblestone and high stone walls around the edges of the city, which were occasionally broken up by archways that once led outside of town. Four raised, heavily damaged bridges closed the archways on each cardinal point of the platform, apparently built by an optimist who imagined a controlled landing more than a collision. The roofs of almost all buildings were rounded with a pointed top, and several trees grew scattered throughout the city. In the center towered the Primal Well's keep, holding the Primal Well, a rare artifact that powered the city and kept it afloat.[1]

Culture and Customs[]

The self-sufficient society of Innean seemed to show a learned simplicity and peace, and wrote in an own dialect. The city had a functional library and blacksmith, as well as shops.[1]

Livestock[]

All livestock of Innean was considered the community's responsibility instead of an individual's property. Livestock raised inside Innean included Innean chickens and Innean pigs.[1]

Food and Entertainment[]

Innean inhabitants joyfully participated in sports such as field tag for entertainment, and fermented ale from vegetables, dubbed "Cloud turnip cider". Some trees in Innean has roots that can be made into chewing gums.[1]

The Guard[]

Innean's guard was a group of volunteers who were led by Nekrex.[1]

Notable Locations[]

Primal Well's Keep[]

The Primal Well's Keep was located inside Innean and was known to hold the Primal Well, a chest-sized chunk of marble, faceted like a diamond, reverberating with the residual magic it collects from the air around it, which kept the city of Innean afloat. The artifact used both Sky and Earth magic to function. If anyone touches the Primal Well without wearing the Cuirass of Vuxen to protect themselves from its powerful magic, the person making contact would be frozen into a magical statue.

The waiting area of the Primal Well's keep was decorated with Innean artifacts, portraits of Keepers past, and historical links to the Skywing Elves of Xadia below, such as old tableware and pottery. To the left was a dining room with a built-in den, featuring a warm hearth, a dinner table, and some kind of unusual lute hanging on the wall. To the right was a study with more artifacts, books, and a desk. In front of the keep was a stairwell behind a translucent, glowing, blue wall of magic, which worked as a magical protection for the Primal Well.[1]
