Inheritance is a side story published through the official website of The Dragon Prince. It revolves around Callum inspecting and cleaning the secret chambers of Viren as he inherits his role of the High Mage of Katolis. It is part of a short story series called "Reflections".[1]
Summary[]
After Callum inherits the title of High Mage of Katolis, he enters Viren's secret chambers inside the castle in order to inspect it for dangerous items and to clean it for his use after it had been abandoned for months. By casting the spell "Angustiae Lautus", he conjures a small whirlwind to assist him, which he dubs "Angus" as a play on words of the incantation.

As Angus cleans the chamber of cobwebs and dust, Callum recalls his last moments spent in this place when he had found Azymondias's egg, unfortunately reminding himself of Rayla, who had abandoned him not too long ago to search for Viren on her own.[2] To distract himself from the hurt, he continues to take a closer look at he jars stored on the shelves, unsure what to do with all the ingredients meant for the use in dark magic spells. When Angus rushes past him, Callum hits his elbow against a table, knocking a familiar elven bow to the floor. To his horror, he recognizes the bow as the weapon used by Runaan to kill his father Harrow, and while the emotions of his argument with Rayla all come rushing back to him, he loses the concentration on his magic, causing Angus to vanish. In frustration, he wonders if locking up the chambers would be the best option, as nothing good could come from this place.
On his way out, Callum notices a door he has not yet checked. Upon entering, he finds himself standing in front of the magic mirror that contains the prison of Aaravos.
Trivia[]
- The story plays several months after the events of "The Final Battle", as well as after the events of "Through the Moon". Callum now owning the mirror is picked up on again in "Rebirthday".
- The spell "Angustiae Lautus" was created by Kris James. The nickname "Angus" was given to the whirlwind after the spell was created.[3]
