Infantis Sanguine is the forty-fifth episode of The Dragon Prince. It is the ninth and final chapter of the fifth book, "Ocean".
While Zubeia fights for her life and Viren arrives at a crossroads, the race toward Aaravos's prison leads those who seek him deep beneath the waves.
Plot[]
Zubeia has a fever dream where she visits Avizandum's petrified body despite her infection and asks for his help. The deceased Dragon King resurrects himself and Zubeia embraces her beloved mate. When he notices her festering wound, Zubeia dismisses it as a mere scratch before she roars and collapses in pain. Despite Avizandum's suggestion to find help, Zubeia is unable to and asks if she will reunite with him should she choose to succumb to the infection. Avizandum declines her gesture and encourages her to find strength and life for Azymondias before he returns to his petrified form. Zubeia wakes up from her fever dream and is motivated by Avizandum's words to find help. After flying away from the Storm Spire, her festering wound causes her to roar in pain and crash into a nearby forest.
Team Zym uses a rowboat from Sea Legs to enter the Sea of the Castout and prepares to find Aaravos's prison before Claudia's group does. Callum and Soren are worried that Claudia and Viren managed to beat them due to being one step ahead, but Ezran assures his friends that they will find the prison first thanks to the knowledge Domina Profundis provided regarding its true nature.
In the middle of the Sea of the Castout, Claudia is frustrated that she and her group are unable to locate the brown island on the day the resurrection spell is supposed to expire. After taking a closer look at the map, Terry realizes that the "brown island" is in fact a piece of brown sludge tart leftover that got stuck between Rex Igneous's teeth, which means that Aaravos's prison must be located deep underwater, at the bottom of the sea. Claudia then gains the idea of using a dark magic spell that requires a Purple Pentapus.
Upon learning that Aaravos's prison is at the bottom of the Sea of the Castout, Callum realizes the amulet Akiyu gave him is enchanted with a spell that allows its wearer to breathe underwater. Knowing that he might not be capable of finding the prison on his own, Callum decides to paint the amulet's runes on his, Ezran, and Rayla's necks before speaking "Aquis Spirare Faucibus". As the trio plunges into the water, Callum and Ezran succeed in activating the spell, but Rayla's fear of drowning forces her to return to the rowboat. Rayla encourages Callum and Ezran to continue without her as she chooses to stay on the rowboat with Soren, Stella, Bait, Zym, Sneezles, Hat, and Jellybug.
Claudia succeeds in catching a Purple Pentapus and mixes its ink with three drops of her blood to create a potion that will grant her the ability to breathe underwater. After she pours the potion into a vial, Claudia gives Viren and Terry temporary goodbye kisses before she casts the dark magic spell and drinks the potion once the lower half of her body is submerged in water. Viren awakens from his catatonic state since the sight of Claudia sinking into the Sea of the Castout gravely reminds him of his fever dream.
Callum and Ezran dive deeper into the Sea of the Castout as the latter befriends a school of fish that agree to guide them to Aaravos's prison. Callum casts a spell that gives him and Ezran the ability to move through the water faster, thus allowing them to follow the fish without falling behind.
Aaravos's spectral form greets Viren as they wait for Claudia to return from the Sea of the Castout. Viren chooses to turn his back on Aaravos before the Startouch Elf orders him to stop. Aaravos then temporarily borrows Viren's consciousness to bring him inside the magical prison. Aaravos boasts about tasting his impending freedom and that Claudia is too powerful for Team Zym to defeat. Aaravos compliments Viren for arriving at the Sea of the Castout on the day the resurrection spell expires. He explains that he can make the resurrection permanent using "Infantis Sanguine", an ancient spell that requires the blood of Viren's child.
Callum and Ezran are soon confronted by Claudia, whose dark magic spell gave her the ability to breathe underwater and transformed the lower half of her body into five large tentacles. Claudia greets Callum and Ezran as if they are her old friends and tries to convince them that all of her actions were done to save her father. She also attempts to persuade them in resurrecting King Harrow before she is forced to drink her potion to replenish the effects of her dark magic spell. Claudia is furious when she realizes that Ezran knows about the prison's true location and threatens to strangle the young king if he does not reveal anything to her.
The horrified Viren refuses to sacrifice either Claudia or Soren, but Aaravos reveals that the child he is referring to is actually the Being. Aaravos returns Viren to the beach and commands him to kill the Being with Claudia's knife before the day ends so that the resurrection can become permanent. However, Viren realizes that dark magic had taken him and Claudia down a treacherous path and rejects Aaravos for good before he walks to a nearby forest to die in peace. Dissatisfied by Viren's decision, Aaravos's spectral form disappears, with the Being sensing his departure.
Claudia knocks Callum out as she demands Ezran to reveal the location of Aaravos's prison. But before Ezran can say anything, Rayla frees him by shooting Claudia with her arrows as Stella perches on her shoulder. Claudia decides to strangle Rayla first before the school of fish Ezran befriended joins the battle. Enraged, Claudia defeats the fish first before she uses her tentacles to capture Callum and Ezran as well. Upon viewing Ezran glancing at a nearby giant clam, the satisfied Claudia prepares to acquire the prison. However, Stella creates a portal that enables Rayla to retrieve her bowblade and severs the tentacle that is grasping her. Claudia screams in pain and unwillingly frees Callum and Ezran. Callum snatches and destroys Claudia's potion, which forces her to return to the surface as the effects of her spell wears off. Callum, Rayla, Ezran, and Stella share a loving hug before they swim towards the giant clam. Ezran convinces the clam to open its mouth and reveals Aaravos's prison as a beautiful white pearl.
At the Sunfire Elf camp, Corvus, Gren, and Kazi are surveying a map of the camp when the guards announce Amaya and Janai's return. Amaya and Janai are confused by the solemn looks that the Corvus, Gren, and Kazi are giving them. When Janai asks if there is something wrong, Corvus reveals to everyone that she had been betrayed.
Karim and Pharos are sulking around their campfire when they notice Miyana delivering the Sun Seed to them. Karim breaks down into tears when Miyana declares her unwavering love and loyalty to him, which leads to them sharing a passionate kiss. Miyana also reveals that she also brought an army, which allows the gratified Karim to put his war in motion.
Zubeia struggles to regain her strength as an Earthblood Elf mage named Mukho uses his magic that not only cauterizes her wound but begins to heal her from the infection as it spreads throughout her entire body with her wound and sore eyes glowing green, indicating that the spell is curing her.
Later that night, Janai has a nightmare that has her taking Khessa's place on the day Aaravos corrupted Lux Aurea. Aaravos whispers that he swallowed Aditi to Janai before he disintegrates her. The horrified Janai wakes up and bursts into tears as Amaya gives her a comforting hug.
The waves wash Claudia to shore and reunite her with Terry and the Being. Terry is shocked that Claudia had lost her left leg from the knee down during her battle with Team Zym. Claudia breaks down into tears and melts into Terry's embrace, for she failed in liberating Aaravos and making Viren's resurrection permanent.
Callum, Rayla, Ezran, and Stella return to the rowboat and reunite with the rest of Team Zym before they gaze upon the pearl that was created to contain Aaravos.
As Viren awaits his forthcoming death, Aaravos reappears to him. The Startouch Elf disappointingly declares that although the sun will rise the next day, the same cannot be said for Viren. When the resurrection spell starts to expire, Aaravos vanishes from Viren's eyes.

Trivia[]
- The episode shares its name with the spell "Infantis Sanguine", which means "blood of a child" in Latin. The phrase is derived from the Latin words "sanguine" ("blood") and "infantis" ("child").
- Zubeia's grief for Avizandum is detailed in the side story "All Storms End".
- The Purple Pentapus is a direct reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender, which has an animal of the same name but a very different design.
