Glow Toads are a species of amphibious magical creatures that are connected to the Sun Primal.
All Glow Toads in the series can be found here.
Appearance[]
Glow Toads can come in several different colors, such as yellow, green, blue, and orange with patches dappling the upper side of their body.[1] The faces of Glow Toads are usually stuck in a characteristic frown, deep furrowing eyebrows, and a pronounced underbite. Despite their name, they do not have any evolutionary features that point to them being aquatic, nor related to frogs or toads. They lack interdigital webbing and their tails show no features to help with steering.
Glow Toads also have long, chameleon-like tongues that allow them to swiftly wrap around objects before pulling them into their mouths.[2]
Information[]
Glow Toads are perpetually grumpy, though they are intelligent and capable of showing emotions such as joy, anger, shock, shame, confusion, disgust, sadness, grief, fear, courage, and love. They are even capable of feeling jealousy when they are ignored.
Like real-life amphibians, Glow Toads lay eggs in water that hatch into tadpoles.[3] The tadpoles are sometimes called "Baitlings" or "Glowtads", and will start to grow legs over time. But unlike frogs and toads, young Glow Toads develop their front legs first and do not reabsorb their tails as they grow.[4]
Glow Toads are known for being delicious and used by deep-sea fishermen to catch large sea creatures such as leviathans.[1][4][5] They can also be used as an ingredient for soup.[6]
Skills and Abilities[]
Sun Primal Connection[]
Glow Toads draw their power from the Sun and their power is at its peak when the sun is at its highest during noon. As the name of the species suggests, the body of a Glow Toad can glow at fluctuating levels of brightness, bright enough to temporarily blind others.[7]
Color Change[]
The hide of Glow Toads, at least those of adult individuals,[1] can change color depending on their emotions, including yellow for neutral, red for angry, purple for nervous, green for terrified, gray for depressed, blue for regretful, orange for happy, and pink for playful.[8] Their skin also seems to change when consuming food of magical origin, as shown when Bait consumed a great deal of moonberry juice, causing him to turn into a reddish-purplish berry color while his turquoise spots glowed.[9]
Physical attributes[]
The jaws of Glow Toads are strong enough to lift and carry objects that are slightly larger than themselves.[10][11]
Notable Glow Toads[]
Trivia[]
- Glow Toads seem to be an amalgamation of real-life chameleons, a species known for sometimes changing their skin color to signal their emotions, and toads.
