Transcript
The episode begins with Callum sitting on the edge of a cliffside cave together with Bait. Callum repeatedly rolls the Key of Aaravos toward Bait, its Sun rune glowing each time. Callum picks up the cube and stares at the Sky rune, which doesn't glow.
Uh, I don't really think about it. I just stand in the light of the full moon, and then there's a feeling like... [mimics whooshing] And then there's a sort of... ting! And then... [exclaims] Moonshadow powers! [She stands] Does that help?
I have to be a mage again. We saw a dragon in the clouds yesterday. Things will only get tougher once we get into Xadia. And crossing the border? That's going to be crazy dangerous.
Soren and Claudia side into the small fortified town. A tower with ramparts rises above the surrounding buildings and walls. Dragging Corvus along, Soren approaches a skyward gazing crowd of citizens and soldiers from behind.
Excuse me. Excuse me. We're looking for a town jail? We've got a horrible traitor to lock up for, uh, traitorous words and deeds. Standard traitor stuff.
Ignoring him the people keep staring up worriedly.
Above the clouds, a large maroon dragon soars in the air, its head crowned with yellow shaded horns. It dives at the town through a gap in the clouds, then spreads its wings and glides away. A groups of the soldiers run up to Soren
Soldier 2
Yeah, it's the third night in a row it's flown over us.
[Scoffs] Well, then, I'll just have to show it that humans won't be intimidated.
The dragon flies in a wide circle around the tower, focusing its gaze on Soren, Claudia and Corvus. Soren runs over to another ballista and turns the winch to tighten the bolt loaded on it.
Soren, please. Don't start a fight you can't finish.
As the dragon turns its head toward them Soren fires the bolt, the dragon easily dodges the bolt then climbs up disappearing into the clouds. Soren turns to Claudia and Corvus.
Wait, we don't know if it's safe out there. Bait, stay with Zym.
Zym looks down sadly.
Scene Change
On the towns tower Claudia pulls Corvus closer as the soldiers gather around them. They crouch as the dragon flies in low to the towers base then surges straight up past them into the sky. Flames leap from its mouth as it turns in the air and dives towards them.
Two ballista bolts race at the dragon who dodges them and shoots flames at the tower. Jumping to safety Claudia pulls Corvus to the ground while Soren ducks behind a wall. Soren sees a section of the tower with a burning ballista on its break away and fall. He watches the dragon circle high above then approaches Corvus. He unsheets his sword and raises it.
Corvus runs off. Soren and Claudia turn as the dragon zooms down past them and bathes the town in another stream of fire. Soren looks at the burning town.
Kram ruoy dnif tlob rekeestraeh. (Heartseeker bolt find your mark).
Claudia's eyes glowing purple, she conjures purple energy in her closed fist then spreads it on the bolts head. The energy shrouds the entire bolt and she rushes to the winch. As the dragon flies closer she fires the glowing purple bolt. The dragon twists in midair to dodge it then soars ahead. As Soren startles in shock the bolt sprouts wings and turns. The dragon launches fire at the tower, breaking its top off. The bolt flies at the dragon who dodges it. In pursuit the bolt loops through the air and strikes at the dragon flank below its left wing. On the overlook Rayla, Callum and Ezran stare in horror.
They hit the floor as the dragon passes just above them then plummets into the forest sending up dust clouds as it slides along the ground. Standing up Rayla and Callum spot Ezran below.
They hurry of the overlook as he runs ahead. Ezran stops at the edge of a clearing where the dragon lies still, its wings spread and its eye shut. Rayla and Callum arrive.
Ezran slowly walks toward the dragon. Reaching out toward the dragon's badly cut face, Ezran hesitates then places his hand on its snout and closes his eyes. The dragon groans softly, slowly opens its eye and looks at Ezran who startles.
Scene Change
The sun hanging low in the sky looking over the bridge leading to Katolis Castle. A small troop travels along the bridge. With two guards on horseback, Viren stops his horse in the courtyard and dismounts, his expression sorrowful. Opeli runs down a flight of stairs and approaches him from behind clutching a scroll.
How dare you? You used King Harrow's seal to summon the Pentarchy and then you lied to them. You called yourself the Regent of Katolis. You committed treason, Viren, and for what?
With Callum helping, they manage to lift the wing. Ezran goes under the wing and removes the bolt. The dragon snarls then closes its eyes. They spot a troop on horseback riding towards them. Rayla unfurls her blades and stands in front of the dragon to protect it.
Hiding behind a tree, they watch the troop arrive at the dragon's side. Callum's eyes go wide as he spots Claudia at the front alongside Soren. He throws out a hand to block Rayla then cops his head to the side.
Viren walks into the room with the mirror and closes the door. He sets aside his staff and steps up to the table with the dagger, goblet, mortar and pestle on it. He walks over to the covered Magic Mirror he stares at his hand and closes his eyes.
There's so many things we can do with a dragon. There's even a chapter about spells that use dragon snot. It's some powerful goo. We don't have the Dragon Prince, but do you think if we brought this dragon home, Dad would...
I've been thinking about something someone once told me. About how when one person hurts another, then that person hurts them back, it becomes a cycle that never ends.
You're right. If we're really going to change things, we can't just watch while humans and Xadia keep hurting each other. But how do I take a stand? Believe me, I want to go down there with you, and be the heroes who stop all the fighting and save the day, but I can't do that. I can't do anything!
It's okay, Callum. I'm not asking you to come with me. Protecting that dragon doesn't just feel like the right thing to do, it feels like the right thing for me to do. It's where I'm meant to be.
She jumps and heads away leaping across treetops. Callum lowers his gaze.
Scene Change
In the clearing, Soren directs a soldier next to the dragon, her neck and snout bound in chains. Her hood pulled up, Rayla watches them from behind a bush and unfurls her swords.
[Breathes deeply] It doesn't matter what happens to me. Live or die, this dragon goes home.
She pops up over a rock and taps a guard’s shoulder. As the guard turns Rayla punches her and pulls her behind the rock. Another guard spots her and Rayla hurls a spear at him knocking him out. Rolling away, she cuts a rope with one of the swords. Creeping stealthy under the dragon's scared wing she slices another rope behind the backs of two guards. The climbs over the dragon to the other side and starts to cut another rope. Soren taps a chain with his sword.
A dead dragon and a dead elf all in one day. Everything's coming up Soren.
Soren charges at Rayla who unfurls her other sword and engages him in a fierce duel. Rayla dodges an attack as she steps back parrying Soren's powerful blows. As their swords lock Soren kicks Rayla to the dragon's side. The guards close in on Rayla from all sides.
Scene Change
At the cave Ezran and Zym rub their noses together while Callum draws in his sketchbook.
He sketches Rayla in three different poses. His pencil snaps and he throws his sketchbook on the ground. The book lands open on a page with a sketch of Claudia perusing her Dark Magic spellbook. As he sees the drawing Callum's eyes do wide.
Opening his eyes, now glowing with purple light, he shoots forward green energy that wraps around the dragon's chains turning them into gray snakes with green markings. Callum's eyes turn black. His eyes return to normal before rolling back as he collapses. The soldiers scatter as the snakes attack them. Rayla pushes the dragon's head with her back.
Congratulations! That was impressive. Really. You did everything you could to save a monster that torched a town of innocent people. But it didn't even matter. You freed a dead dragon.
Behind him, steam rises from the dragon's body and her eye opens. Soren notices the dragon looking at him then backs away as she stands up. She spreads her wings and roars, then looms over Soren who looks worriedly and clutches his sword.
Scene Change
Ezran ambles down a rocky slope, glancing around searchingly. He peers into a bush then looks to the side and notices a pulsating glow. He slides down and parts the leaves of a glowing bush.
Rayla pulls Callum to his feet and they watch as the guards scatter from the advancing dragon who spreads her wings and roars at Soren. Soren swings his sword at the dragon and misses but cuts off one of her horns. The dragon stomps at Soren with her claw who rolls away and smiles. The dragon hits Soren with her tail sending him crashing hard into a boulder. As he collapses motionless on his side she walks over and looms above him with her pupil narrowing into a slit. She glances aside and sees Zym behind her.
As Zym cowers in fright Ezran picks him up. The fire dragon and roars then extends her snout to Zym. Leaning back, she considers Zym for a moment, then flaps her massive wings and takes off. Ezran watches her climb into the sky then watches down and sees Claudia walking toward him.
Claudia's eyes do wide as a look of horror dawns on her face.
Scene Change
At Katolis Castle, Viren beside the table in the dungeon cell staring at the mirror. As the mirror mage enters the study and looks at him Viren picks up the dagger and holds it up to his palm.
The mirror mage nods and holds his own knife against him palm. A few drops of blood all into the bowl issuing a small burst of purple fire and smoke. Viren closes his hand around the dagger and also drops a few drops of blood into the mortar which also give of purple fire and smoke. The mirror mage opens his mouth and a black and purple caterpillar-like creature with thin horns crawls out. The mage takes the caterpillar on his pointer finger and lowers it into a swirling red and violet liquid in the bowl. A red glow emanates from Viren's mortar and clears to reveal the same caterpillar crawling inside. Narrowing his eyes, Viren takes the bug onto his hand. It raises its head and looks to Viren then crawls under his sleeve. Crawling up his arm and out of his collar the caterpillar nestles on his right ear. The mirror mages mouth appears next to it.
