Finnegrin was a Tidebound Elf mage who ruled over Scumport with an iron fist.[3] He was killed after his former bodyguard Elmer tossed him into the mouth of a leviathan.[2]
Appearance[]
Finnegrin was an adult Tidebound Elf with grayish blue skin, dark indigo coral-like horns with orange tips, gray eyes, pale blue fins as ears, broad shoulders, strong hands, two-gill slits on each side of his neck, as well as a splash of facial markings that resembled freckles. He sported a black goatee and wavy black hair tied into a bun. His clothing consisted of a dark and long coat, a white tunic with orange collars, light gray pants, black gloves with barnacles on their knuckles, and black boots. Worn around his neck was a necklace with a pale pink seashell as its pendant.[3]
Personality[]
Finnegrin was a ruthless and selfish pirate captain who possessed enough power to make others, such as Elmer, fight on his behalf. It was his iron-fisted strength that made him the unofficial ruler of Scumport.[3] His signature move for keeping his subordinates afraid and loyal was to use Ocean magic to freeze the blood in a person's body, incapacitating and inflicting great pain on them all at once.[2] He would flip a coin to determine the fates of his captured enemies. If heads, he would drown them in the icy depths. If tails, then they wish it had been heads.[1]
Finnegrin was business savvy and willing to listen to the requests of others and give them a chance to impress him, regardless if the business was legal or not. Nonetheless, he was known for only making deals in his favor, such as acquiring Glow Toads to become leviathan bait. However, if they failed to meet the expectations they built up in his mind, then he would see to it that it would end very badly for them.[4]
While most elves are appalled and disgusted by dark magic, Finnegrin was the opposite. He asked Callum for the spell that slew Avizandum so that he could kill Domina Profundis in order to avenge the death of his favorite pet Giant Hermit Crab Shelley and gain total dominance over the seas.[2]
Finnegrin had a fascination with hermit crabs. When he was not swindling customers or out on his ship, he would tend to the hermit crabs that lurked and scurried around the office in his tower, which usually involved replacing their shells whenever they outgrew one. And when he did, he would personally see to it that whatever shell he outfitted his crabs with were not lacking in style, as evident by one shell having flamboyant motorcycle flames on it. It was unclear if his hermit crabs were part of his inventory of legally ambiguous tradable goods or if they were simply pets he liked to have around.[4] He was also fond of Giant Hermit Crabs and always spoke of his previous ship Shelley with genuine affection.[2]
Although Finnegrin could be courteous towards potential allies,[4] he was also vengeful and harbored a deep grudge for anyone who crossed him. He claimed his greatest desire was to achieve true freedom as a pirate, but in reality, his greatest desire was to control all of the seas and everyone around him to maintain his power. However, being born with the Ocean arcanum, he knew deep down that he would never truly be able to control everything, and that secretly terrified him.[2]
Skills and Abilities[]

Ocean Magic Mastery[]
Finnegrin was able to cast Ocean magic.[2]
- "Venus Frigoris": A spell that Finnegrin used to freeze the blood of his intended targets.[2]
Trivia[]
- "Finnegrin" is derived from the name "Finnegan", which means "fair" or "fair-haired" in Irish.[5]
- Aaron Ehasz has confirmed that Finnegrin's character and personality were inspired after Al Swearengen (portrayed by Ian McShane) from the television series, "Deadwood".[6]
- Finnegrin's ability to freeze blood is an obvious nod to bloodbending from the "Avatar" franchise.
