Fallen Stars is the twenty-ninth episode of The Dragon Prince. It is the second chapter of the fourth book, "Earth".

Facing another journey up the steep Storm Spire, Viren panics. Janai's brother pushes back against her plans. Callum attempts to decode the mirror.

Plot[]

Inside the cave at the bottom of the Storm Spire, Claudia informs Viren that the Being inside the cocoon requires help to arrive, namely that of the relic staff. As it was dropped on the spire's pinnacle, the two, alongside Terry, make their way back up onto the mountain. Once up on the stairs, Viren begins to struggle and sweat, as the heights trigger his memories of dying from falling off the top of the spire.

The day Callum's Tome of Translation has arrived has come. When he tries to pick it up from the Associate Crow Lord, the latter stalls him as he expresses his awe over a Xadian Sunbird that had carried the book to Katolis. Finally in possession of the book, Callum rushes back to his study, where he passes Ezran and Corvus. When his brother calls out his good mood, Callum can not help but to giggle over his love for books as he runs off. This is when Corvus expresses his respect for Ezran's plans to invite Zubeia and Azymondias, and inquires whether peace is the true reason behind the visit, or if he merely misses his friend. Ezran responds with asking if it can not be both, as he misses Azymondias dearly.

Inside the dragon lair of the Storm Spire, Azymondias stubbornly refuses to eat the vegetables Ibis insists he has to eat before the journey to Katolis in order to please his mother. When Zubeia and Pyrrah approach, Ibis tosses the vegetables as not to receive the wrath of the Dragon Queen, and lies to her about her son having eaten his dinner. After Azymondias cuddles up to Ibis, the three depart onto their journey.

To distract Viren from his fear of heights, Claudia suggests for Terry to display his Earth magic. Pleased by the suggestion, he enters a magical state and casts a spell onto a Xadiazelia flower, enhancing its growth through no visible change. Enamored with her boyfriend being an Earthblood Elf, Claudia goes on to tell Viren about the smell Terry leaves after passing gas, much against her father's wishes. A few steps further up the stairs, the trio refreshes their breath through the use of a dark magic spell that sacrifices Puffer-Bats to breathe live back into their lungs. Viren begins to suspect that Claudia had failed to catch the bats at the correct time, as he begins to feel short of breath again not long after. Despite being reassured that the spell was cast correctly, Viren soon faints as a result of a panic attack. After waking, he reminds Terry that he had died after his fall from the top after the former had tried to calm his anxieties.

Back in his study, Callum quickly realizes that his newly acquired tome contains no letters. When he angrily slams his hands onto his desk, ink spills and reveals to Bait that all that Callum will write will be translated on the empty pages, which he makes Callum aware of.

In the settlement of the Sunfire Elves near Lux Aurea, everyone congratulates Janai and Amaya on their engagement. However, Janai's brother, Prince Karim, sparks his sister's worry when appearing to be concerned. When the two walk out of the royal tent, Karim asks Janai not to make her marriage official and keep it between her and Amaya in private, as he fears for the reputation of their nation should she officially marry a human as the new queen of Lux Aurea. He makes her aware that the elves in the camp are not fond of the humans sharing the space with her, and that he does not wish for them to become permanent residents of their homeland.

Claudia, Viren, and Terry continue their climb, where the two young adults can freely laugh about their nervousness. Viren, on the other hand, loses consciousness once more after the stairs beneath him threaten to crumble. Claudia manages to catch him before he can fall. When Viren wakes up again, he wonders if it would not be easier to accept his fate and enjoy the time he has left, praising his beautiful daughter, though Claudia does not allow him to do so. When Zubeia and her companions fly above them, she celebrates that they no longer have to sneak into the spire, though allows Viren to stay behind as the climb takes a visible toll on him.

Having returned to her tent, Janai is joined by Amaya who wonders if humanity and elves are moving too fast. As Janai has no answer to this question, she lets herself be comforted by her fiancée.

When night has fallen over Callum's study, he finally finishes writing his translation. The tome reveals the phrase "In Darkness, Gaze Upon a Fallen Star". As Callum wonders about this phrase, something dashes across the room, noticed by an alarmed Bait. When the Key of Aaravos is snatched with the rune of the Stars glowing, the creature reveals itself to be a Cuddlemonkey. When Callum turns around to see where the Cuddlemonkey had ran off to, he and Bait cannot believe their eyes as they gaze upon the returned Rayla.
