Earth Dragons are one of the six classes of dragons found in Xadia. They possess a connection to the magical energy of the Earth.
Contrary to expectations, Earth Dragons are among the most secretive and difficult to find of Xadia's dragons. They can so expertly camouflage themselves amidst forests or stony terrain that passers-by will never even know they were in the presence of such a being. Some even dwell underneath the surface of the earth. However, their Primal powers ensure that if they do want someone to know it is there, said someone definitely will not miss it.[1]
Avalanche Dragons[]
Avalanche Dragons are dragons with segmented shells, allowing them to curl up like a pill bug. They live up on mountains peaks and use their curling ability to tumble down the mountainside, crushing everything in their path, from enemies to settlements. They are highly territorial and ruthlessly brutal with this ability, clearing any small encampment that begins to grow near them.[1]
Berry Dragons[]
|
Berry Dragons are almost imperceptibly tiny, roundish dragons with big eyes, a small snout, and stubby legs. Their scales resemble the shape and color of the plump bumps of a raspberry. They live in berry trees located in Duren's volcanic territories. They use the hooks on their butterfly-like wings to hang from branches while dozing happily in a curled-up position, making them almost impossible to tell apart from actual berries. They will bite anything that tries to pick them, and it is likely that Berry Dragon nose bites are more common than verified sightings.[1]
Blossom-Backed Dragons[]
|
Blossom-Backed Dragons are massive, semi-subterranean dragons whose bodies are colored in the shades of soil and granite. They have huge nostrils, a plated nose, and leaf-like growths sprouting from the sides of their heads and eyebrows. Their heads are covered in flowers in hues of pink, green, and yellow. Their claws are shaped like those of moles, which allow them to tunnel underground. Though they burrow, they often come up to the surface and poke their head out from the ground to draw magic from the pollen Xadian poppies and other large blooms, breathing it in deeply. Though not particularly hostile, careless free spirits and botanists have seen one all too late while venturing alone in a pastoral field.[1]
Earthen Wyrms[]
Earthen Wyrms are a subspecies of the Earth Dragons.[2] More info is yet to be revealed.
Maple Dragons[]
|
Maple Dragons are unique and docile dragons resembling a mix of a long-necked dinosaur and a wandering tree, who amble gently on long, thin stilt-like legs resembling tree trunks, while their head is crowned by a lush treetop. While normally native to the maple forests of the northern parts of Xadia, they have been forced to migrate to the East due to human hunting practices, where they have a somewhat prickly relationship with Moonshadow Elves who make the mistake of trying to harvest maple branches for tools or tap them for syrup.[1]
Moss Dragons[]
Moss Dragons are large, lumbering, and loopy. These happy-go-lucky dragons have extremely tough scales where magical moss often grows. They are normally deeply skeptical of anything that walks on two legs, but they will allow a gentle Earthblood Elf to collect the moss.[1]
Mushroom Dragons[]
Mushroom Dragons are subterranean dragons with beaked heads shaped like cones and a rubbery tan spine that resembles a mushroom. They mostly keep underground, but they enjoy pressing their backs up against tree roots to scratch an itch. Caution is advised to someone who is out collecting mushrooms deep in the woods; the spine of this dragon poking out of the ground between the roots of a tree can be mistaken for a large subterranean mushroom. They can poke their heads above the soil quickly to say hello.[1]
Sand Dragons[]
|
Sand Dragons have long and slender serpent-like bodies with elongated snouts with detailed shaping and small eyes, and their scales form a large head plate that descends into smaller scales running down their backs. Their underbelly does not appear to be protected by scales. They swim through the desert sands like sea water, several feet down where the sand is cooler. Though they can fly, they prefer to do so at night, as they are more sensitive to heat than a Sun Dragon might be. Despite their enjoyment of sand, they detest Soulfang Serpents and thus avoid the Midnight Desert.[1]
Slate Dragons[]
|
Slate Dragons are large, ironclad, and wingless dragons mantled with massive, jagged, exoskeletal-like scales on each of their limbs. They are slow and lumbering, with great muscles taut and coiled beneath those scales.[3] They are incredibly strong and can deflect almost any blade. They are known to seek out larger, more vulnerable dragons and offer themselves as guardians and protectors.[1]
Unnamed Earth Dragons (1)[]
|
These unnamed Earth Dragons are native to the Drakewood located inside the Uncharted Forest of Xadia. They are medium-sized, two-legged dragons with a slim figure and an elongated neck, and can use their wings as an extension in place of a limb, making use of the single claw sticking out from each of them. These dragons appear in a variety of different color schemes on different parts of their bodies. Known colors include brown, gray, yellow, green, red, pink, blue, and purple. Their horns are located on the sides of their heads in place of ears, and different patterns can appear on their backs. They feature a set of sharp teeth and three claws on each foot, as well as platings above their feet.[4]
These dragons can be forcefully tamed by the Earthblood Elves of the Drakewood, who capture them by using bolas made from magic gems capable of blinding the dragons temporarily. They are then used as mounts for their Drakeriders.[5]
Unnamed Earth Dragons (2)[]
|
These unnamed Earth Dragons are enormous and powerful dragons with jagged rock-like armor across their head, back, and tail, with gold gemlike spikes at selective spots. They have two forward-facing bull-like horns and a pair of large wyvern-like wings located on the backside of their arms. They live in underground caverns and only emerge once a century. They are capable of burrowing through the ground at high speeds and can blast a powerful wave of volcanic ash from their mouths.[6]
Notable Earth Dragons[]
- Rex Igneous (Archdragon of the Earth ♂)
- Squeaky (Earth Dragon ♀)
Trivia[]
- The unnamed Earth Dragons of the Drakewood were inspired by speeder bikes.[7]
- An arrogant thief once stole a relic from an Earth Dragon's treasure hoard. As he was making his escape, the ground split open beneath him and swallowed him up as the dragon reclaimed the treasure.[1]
