All day, I've... I mean, all week really, I've been so nervous and kind of edge-frazzled, you know? But now finally seeing you, I feel... still nervous.
Yeah. But would it be okay maybe if I stay? And we just don't talk?
Bait walks over to Callum and grunts Callum looks up at Rayla. Stella suckles on Rayla's finger. Callum picks up Bait and puts him on the bench, Rayla and Stella sit down next to them.
Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow.
Terry presses his lips together, closes his eyes and leans towards Claudia. Claudia presses her lips and makes a farting sound. Both laugh.
Scene Change
At Katolis Castle, sunlight shines through an arched window into Callum's office. Smoke wafts from an extinguished candle. Stella sleeps on the back of Bait, who turns and bounces Stella off. Rayla watches Callum sleep.
Some people have come to me in confidence. They worry that honoring a dragon in a place that is a memorial to so many great humans, some of whom died at their hands, is offensive.
This is a happy day, and it's going to be the start of a great era of peace.
Opeli gives Ezran a doubtful look. Ezran gasps and his eyes widen. He steps into the sunlight and closes his eyes. Pyrrah flies toward the ground, with Zubeia and Zym following her.
Whoa! Here they come! Zym can see us! They're about to land.
Everyone gasps and soldiers walk to a clearing of the festival. Townspeople scatter as the dragons approach. Pyrrah kicks up a cloud of dust as she lands. Soren stands with Corvus and waves. Zubeia lands as townspeople display mixed reactions. Sparks of electricity ripple around Zubeia as she lands. Everyone on the ground shields their faces.
Soren's hair stands on end. Zubeia casts a large shadow over the festival grounds. A boy grins with excitement. His father scowls and pulls him close. Ezran and the rest of the council bow to Zubeia.
Hmm. You're kind of odd, aren't you? Little table. Awfully small for a dragon. Oh, you're not a dragon-sized table, you're a dragon-sized button!
She climbs on the pedestal and stomps her feet. She jumps up and down on the button, then rests her chin in her hands. The button descends and the dais starts spinning. Claudia leaps as the dais sinks into the floor and stone slabs emerge and form a staircase. Claudia smirks at the sight of the staircase.
[Laughs] Welcome, welcome! Now we've met before. You might recall my name is Soren. But from the looks of you flying overhead, you are the one who is soarin'! [laughs]
Mmm. In the name of the dragons and the First Elves, I declare this the most delicious jelly in all of Xadia!
The townspeople cheer and applaud Barius. He smiles and places his hand on his chest.
Scene Change
At the lair of the Dragon Queen, Claudia descends the spiral staircase. A bright light shines from her palm and goes out. Suddenly a torch on the wall ignites. Several other torches ignite and illuminates a large vault.
Maybe you'll be easier to find if I make you glow. Lux Revelare!
She strikes the floor with the Sun staff. Behind her, golden light shimmers from the inside of one of the chests. Claudia walks closer to it and gives a smug grin. She pries to chest open with her staff. Viren's staff glows inside the chest.
Purple energy crackles from her staff. Ibis blocks it and shoots a beam of wind back to Claudia. They clash together and it produces a small explosion.
Scene Change
In the Valley of the Graves, the townspeople and the dragons gather near a shrine at the waters edge. Ezran, Soren and Callum with Bait in his hands walk up stone steps and stand with Opeli and Corvus.
The jelly tart was a gift of joy. This painting is a gift of hope and friendship. I hope you like it!
Ezran unveils a painting of Zubeia, which has a large hole on the place where Zubeia's head would be. Zym lowers his head. Everyone gasps and starts murmuring. Ezran looks up at Zubeia.
In the vault, Ibis knocks Claudia backwards against a pillar. He conjures windblasts and aims swords at her. She ducks below the swords than draws a rune in the air.
She strikes the floor with her staff and a purple energy beam shoots out. Ibis blocks the blast and casts another windblast which knocks Claudia to the floor. Ibis puts both his Sky staff and Viren's staff on his back and runs while he stretches out his arms.
Her eyes flash green. Ibis soars up through the dais. His wings disappear and turn back into arms. He uses a spell to retract the spiral steps. Claudia rises upwards, transformed into a giant snake. She grabs Ibis, then wraps her snake body around him.
Never. I'm going to destroy it before it can be used to do any more harm.
Claudia plunges the fang into her frozen lower half and shatters the snake body. Claudia hits Ibis with her staff. Viren's staff falls to the ground and Claudia runs toward it. Ibis knocks her against a wall with a windblast from the side. She tackles him as he picks up Viren's staff.
Who did this? Speak for yourself! If you want to say something to the Dragon Queen, you should say it to her face. Her real face that can bite you in two. Come on, coward!
Everyone starts to murmur. Soren starts to unsheathe his sword, but Ezran stops him and shakes his head. Soren stands down, Ezran turns to the crowd.
I had a speech planned for today. It was about peace and love and hope. But I think I left something out. I ignored something that was true. I denied something that is undeniable. We are angry! I am angry. I have been hurt. My dad was killed when I was nine years old. My mom was taken from me before I could even remember her. It hurts! I feel pain about this, and I am angry!
We all want peace and we all want love. But violence tests us. In a twisted way, it converts us to its cause. Because pain and loss feel so terrible inside, you want to hate. You want to hurt someone else.
Zym stands next to Ezran. Ezran places a hand on Zym's snout.
Somehow, we have to hold it all in our hearts at the same time. We have to acknowledge the weight of the pain and loss, but open our eyes and allow ourselves to hope and maybe forgive and love again. We have to give today's children a chance to inherit a future filled with peace. To give them that, we have to hold pain and love in our hearts at the same time.
Ibis' eyes widen and he drops his staff. He coughs with blood on his lower lip. He looks down and the point of a blade protrudes through his torso, then retracts. He slumps to the ground, with Terry standing behind him with Viren's staff in his hands. He drops the staff and drops to he knees next to Claudia.
I-I had to. I-I-I couldn't let him hurt you. [sobbing]
Tears stream down his face. Claudia consoles him in a hug.
Corvus plays the cello on top of the shrine. Townspeople light candles. Callum carries a lit candle to the shrine. He kneels and places the candle at the base of a statue. The statue is of King Harrow sitting on top of a horse.
In the lair, Ibis lies face down to the ground, unconscious.
He lifts his head and grabs his staff. He walks outside and slowly climbs spire steps that lead to a carved stone platform at the top of the Storm Spire. He leans on his staff and walks to the center of the platform. He traces a rune in the air.
He drops his staff and collapses. His last breath swirls as a vapor around the rune.
In the Valley of Graves, Opeli lights torches at the shrine as night falls. Corvus finishes playing "A Song of Love and Loss". Ezran wipes away a tear.
You are a wise and special boy, Ezran. When you spoke, it was as though you could see my own heart and my pain. And the truth of you seeing that somehow made it feel less. It felt like healing.
Ezran hugs Rayla tight. A windblast blows through the valley and extinguishes the torches and candles. The windblast swirls overhead and creates thick clouds. Ibis' face appears.
