Berto, fully known as Roberto,[1] is a parrot and the trusty companion and first mate of the sailor Villads, who accompanied him on travels on The Ruthless[2] before it was destroyed.[3]
Appearance[]
Berto is a large parrot with red feathers and a white underside, as well as blue wings. He also has blue eyes, a dark brown beak, and dark brown talons.
Personality[]
As a parrot, Berto can speak to a limited degree and has a sense of humor, at one point amusing Ezran when actually saying the word "squawk" out loud instead of actually squawking. This humor possesses a macabre side, however. When Callum remarked that a coming storm was his chance, Berto responded with "A chance to die", and as Callum tried to ease out saying that he meant a chance to learn, Berto wittily answered "To learn how to drown".[2]
Berto seems to be well-tuned to Villads's needs, at one point swiftly flying off to retrieve his hat when it blew away in a stiff wind.[2]
Skills and Abilities[]
Communication[]
Berto is capable of speaking and understanding human language fairly well.[2]
Trivia[]
