Zubeia

Zubeia was the beloved mate of Avizandum and their union resulted in the conception of their son Azymondias. They would spend every night sleeping together inside the Storm Spire.[1]

When Zubeia was confronted with the death of Avizandum, she was heartbroken and ordered the assassinations of King Harrow and Prince Ezran to exact justice.[2] However, Zubeia's grief for her mate eventually overwhelmed her and she fell into a deep slumber.[3]

After the battle against Viren's army, Zubeia's grief for her mate still remained as she refused to go to or let Azymondias be anywhere near Avizandum's petrified body, but tells the dragonling stories about him and all of his great accomplishments. And yet, even though she loved Avizandum dearly, Zubeia was not proud of everything he did despite protecting the Border, his kingdom, and his family. Through her own clarity, Zubeia almost took part in a cycle of hatred that took her mate away. Not wanting the cycle to continue anymore, Zubeia finally mustered the courage to go to Avizandum's resting place along with her son while also retelling stories of love he had for them as well as missing him dearly.[1]

Zubeia's love for Avizandum persists long after his passing and she will not tolerate anyone who mocks his demise.[4]

After Zubeia became infected by a corrupted Banther, she sought Avizandum for help in her fever dream. She told him her fear of losing everything and her wound was making her lose her mind. At first, a part of Zubeia wished to succumb to the infection so that she could reunite with Avizandum. However, Avizandum encouraged Zubeia to find help and to not lose hope for Azymondias.[5]

Azymondias

Avizandum cared deeply for Azymondias even when the latter was just an egg. His love for his then unhatched son was the reason why he was willing to put his animosity towards Viren and Harrow aside for one day if his foes agreed to leave him and Xadia alone. When Avizandum was defeated, he attempted to return to the unhatched Azymondias and shed a tear right before his death, as he was saddened by the fact that he was not going to live long enough to meet his son and watch him grow up.[6]

Although Zym would never know Avizandum in person, the dragonling learned more about his accomplishments through Zubeia and cherished the fact that his father loved him and his mother more than anything.[1] Zym greatly honors the memories of Avizandum through this experience and will not tolerate anyone who slanders his father with impunity.[7]

Allies

Aditi

Aditi was well respected and trusted by Avizandum. When fighting to become the next monarch of Xadia, he allowed Aditi to decide the outcome for him and his fellow Archdragons instead. Before this judgement could be made, however, Aditi vanished mysteriously.[4]

Enemies

Rex Igneous

Originally, Avizandum and Rex Igneous were friends. However, their relationship descended into bitter rivalry, starting when they competed to become Luna Tenebris's successor.[4] Rex Igneous believed that Avizandum supported a neverending war and disagreed with his tendency to battle humans whenever he could. Upon being confronted by Zym, Rex Igneous assumed that Avizandum was too cowardly to face him. However, Rex gave Zym his sympathies when he learned that Avizandum had died two years ago.[7]

Aaravos

Aaravos was once respected and beloved as one of the Great Ones by Avizandum as he was with most others of Xadia. When a young human girl revealed that Aaravos had orchestrated several crises throughout the world for a thousand years, Avizandum and the other Archdragons, along with the elves, tricked the Archmage into a state vulnerable enough to successfully imprison him. After the imprisonment, Avizandum was given an enchanted looking glass, one of many puzzle pieces to locating the magical prison, and was tasked to watch over Aaravos.[4] Aaravos's actions angered Avizandum enough that he did not bother to tell him where he had imprisoned him. In return, Avizandum became one of the creatures Aaravos despised the most and took immense satisfaction when he learned that Harrow and Viren used dark magic to slay the Dragon King.[6]

Viren

Characteristic of most dragons during his era, Avizandum hated humans in general but held a stronger distaste for those who practiced dark magic. As such, he held a hatred for Viren based mostly on principle over any personal animosity towards the mage.[8] However, Avizandum was willing to let Viren walk out of Xadia alive if he left immediately at the Dragon King's command, as Avizandum did not want the anticipated day of his son's birth to be marked by murder.[6] Even after Avizandum was slain, Viren eventually desired to kill his mate Zubeia and harvest his son Azymondias to become the protector of humanity.[9]

Annika and Neha

Despite their brief meeting, the queens of Duren became Avizandum's enemies when he caught them on his side of the Border with the heart of a Magma Titan in their possession. Avizandum managed to kill Annika and Neha after he slammed his tail onto them.[8]

Sarai

Sarai never hated Avizandum and she begged Harrow not to provoke his wrath, instead only agreed to kill a Magma Titan because she knew if she forbid it, Harrow would kill it anyway. She assumed this mission to be Katolis's last raid on Xadia. Even though Avizandum killed her, Sarai would never have wanted anyone to hold a grudge against him and wanted Harrow to be able to mourn and heal on his own terms.[8] However, Viren manipulated Harrow by convincing him that Sarai would have wanted revenge and used her last breath to forge a cursed spear to kill Avizandum. As the spear was thrown at the Archdragon, Sarai's voice can be heard as it screams "Nooo!", confirming once more that the actions of her husband brought her anguish.[6]

Harrow

Harrow's hatred for the Archdragon grew when the latter killed Queen Sarai. When Viren informed Harrow that he had everything he needed for a dark magic spell to kill Avizandum, he was able to convince him to give in to his hatred and provide his blood to complete it, reminding Harrow of how Callum and Ezran grew up without Sarai, and how her death broke his heart. After Harrow and Viren managed to kill Avizandum, Harrow did not appear to draw any satisfaction from it and was initially unwilling to condemn Avizandum's unhatched egg, clearly not extending his animosity towards Azymondias. Harrow reluctantly allowed Viren to destroy the egg, convinced by the mage of the threat it could potentially pose to humanity.[6] After he learned the elves were coming after him, Harrow reflected if Sarai would ever have allowed him to kill Avizandum, as she was more empathic with Xadia. Harrow came to regret killing Avizandum and allowing Viren to "kill" Zym, as he knew he had caused the death and suffering of innocents from all kingdoms, including Avizandum who never met his son. Killing him did not bring him the happiness he expected after avenging Sarai, and instead, he unwillingly roped Ezran into his grudge. With what he learned, Harrow wrote in his final letter that Callum must not give in to hate as he had.[8]
