Aaravos's Prison, also referred to as the Pearl, was a magical prison located inside a large, beautiful pearl. It held the Startouch Elf Archmage Aaravos who was imprisoned as a punishment for a thousand years of crises he had brought upon the world.[1]
The prison was located underwater in the middle of the Sea of the Castout, hidden within the skeleton of Aaravos's fallen daughter Leola[2] and in the mouth of a giant clam. Though it fell into the possession of Team Zym, who had retrieved it to prevent Claudia and Terry from releasing Aaravos,[3] Claudia and Terry later gained possession of the prison following Sol Regem's attack on Katolis.[4] The prison was destroyed when Aaravos was freed.[2]
History[]
300 years before the birth of Azymondias, a young human girl discovered that the Startouch Elf Archmage Aaravos was the mastermind behind every great crisis that had plagued the world for a thousand years. Since Aaravos was far too powerful to confront directly, the Archdragons and elves of Xadia secretly collaborated and conspired to stop him in his tracks,[5] using a moment of vulnerability to their advantage, so they could seal the scheming Startouch Elf into a magical prison.[1] The prison was crafted by a mysterious human mage known as the Jailer with the aid of Akiyu, the Tidebound Elf Archmage, before it was hidden underwater on the seafloor in the middle of the Sea of the Castout.
Since Aaravos is a master manipulator, not one being could be allowed to know too much about the prison's nature, material, or location. The Jailer was willing to have the Archdragons kill Akiyu after the latter unintentionally saw the map of the prison's location. However, Akiyu made a vow to die before she could reveal the secret location of the prison to anyone else, which spared her from the Jailer's wrath.[6] Each of the Archdragons of Xadia received one of many puzzle pieces shared between them to conceal the whereabouts of the prison. While each Archdragon possessed one clue, not one of them knew the whole picture. Avizandum received an enchanted looking glass to keep watch over Aaravos,[1] Rex Igneous received a carving of a map to the prison's location into one of his teeth,[7] and Domina Profundis was given a description of the prison's true nature as a pearl in a giant clam.[3]
After learning everything they could about Aaravos, Team Zym successfully prevailed over Claudia's group in locating and securing the prison.[3]
Team Zym brought the prison to Katolis, and after awakening from his sleepwalking, Callum sowed spell-blocking runes into Rayla's blanket that would cover the prison and asked Barius to create a pastry decoy of it to confuse anyone who would try to free Aaravos. The decoy prison would stay in Katolis while the real one would be brought to the Star Scraper.[8] However, Callum accidentally mistook the decoy for the real prison,[9] allowing Claudia to release Aaravos following Sol Regem's attack on Katolis with the spell "Amor Stella Vitae".[2]
Information[]
The exterior of the prison takes the form of a large, beautiful white pearl stored inside the mouth of a giant clam.[3] Inside the pearl lies an elven structure equipped with large, pastel-colored windows and concave bookshelves carved into the silver walls. The space closest to Aaravos's side of Avizandum's looking glass is a room equipped with a fireplace, tables, plants, candles, and filled bookshelves. A secondary door exists outside the mirror's field of vision.[10]
Trivia[]
- After using "goofy goo" to copy Rex Igneous's map, Claudia and Terry mistakenly believed that a piece of brown sludge tart leftover that was on Rex's tooth at the time and got stuck on their goo map was a brown island where the prison must be located.[3]
- The interior of the pearl heavily resembles Aaravos's library that he and his daughter Leola used to live in.[2]
- Some of the books contained in the library are "Poetica Cosmica", "Realms Beyond Time", and "The Four Ancient Gifts".[8]
